Received first SS cheque ... and invoice for part B.

Yay, just received my first cheque, after waiting til age 70! (I've been paying for Medicare part B via invoice each month.) The first cheque covered December and does not deduct part B, the next cheque covers January and will have part B deducted. Clearly, the invoice I received for February...

Wellesley and Wellington show huge losses

I was inspecting my Fido paper statement this weekend, as I consider my rebalance, and noticed that my VFIAX (Vanguard 500 index) beginning position for July 1st was unavailable! Ending balance was there, so all that was off was my monthly gain. I'd assumed that Fido tracked that amount, but...

CP2000 - Cheaper to pay than fix!

PO'd is a little strong, let's try miffed! I appreciate the sympathetic voices! :)

CP2000 - Cheaper to pay than fix!

tl;dr - mostly just a gripe! BTW, that should be CP2000 Back in 2013, when I was tidying up my Keogh as part of my retirement prep, I sold my shares in Blackstone … or so I thought. From Fidelity's perspective the shares were sold. On Blackstone's end however (presumably because it was Friday...

I'll buy your house for cash! [No, not me!]

My mettle when dealing with salespeople isn't the strongest -- this thread is partly my way of steeling myself for the encounter. My neighbors identical house listed earlier this year in the high 700's and closed this week in the high 800's, so I have a fairly good comp!

I'll buy your house for cash! [No, not me!]

If I only had to sacrifice 10k + 3%, you wouldn't see my A4D! I'd happily sacrifice 10% for a lazy sale, but I suspect more chiseling might be involved!

I'll buy your house for cash! [No, not me!]

If you're like me, you probably receive offers like this in the mail, on a fairly regular basis. If you're like me you treat these letters with a heaping helping of skepticism! My house though, has more than its fair share of deferred maintenance, and sales prices up my street will substantially...

Looking for the magic formula for Roth conversions vs RMDs

You should probably hold off until you're 59.5, lest you incur the 10% early withdrawal penalty -- should give you plenty of time to puzzle things out! :)

How the Fed affects your portfolio

Actually, I brought my scheduled rebalance forward by a month in anticipation of the increase ... it appears I needn't've bothered!

    Stable Value Fund

My 401K was closed within days of retirement, as the company had moved to Merrill Lynch from Fidelity at some point prior!

    Stable Value Fund

Umm, wouldn't it be better to rebalance before the stock bubble bursts? ;) I just rebalanced last week, and was looking for options for my increased cash position. Is there an equivalent to your 2% fund in either Fidelity or Vanguard?

Longest Bull Market in History! Woo-hoo!

I just rebalanced by switching all my Wellington to Wellesley today -- got those jitters going! Also sold off all my remaining Fidelity managed equity funds; well, except for Magellan of course -- sentimental reasons! Thinking about BLV vs. BSV for tomorrow!

Your oldest appliance, just for fun

My kitchen's electric range was installed in the 60's, made by Universal Chef. I'm down to 2 hobs, and the 'Penthouse' oven hasn't worked in the 18 years I've lived here -- a convenient place to store my spices! Gonna let the next lucky owner do the kitchen remodel that I contemplated when I...

    Best Genealogy Software?

As I'm from 'over there,' I keep my records on: Discover your ancestors - Genes Reunited. It's mostly free, but you can optionally pay for access to various premium sources. You have the choice of keeping your records private, or selectively publishing them.

    Transition to gmail

I transitioned to yahoo back in 2002, when using outlook often meant one would get any virus going. I've switched ISP's a number of times since then and always maintained my yahoo address. Oh, and I very rarely see spam, unless I open up the spam folder!

Best apps for Android smart phone?

Apps? I don't need no stinkin' apps! Mind you, for some reason, a free compass app gives more than its fair share of amusement at happy hour! [mod edit to remove partisan political comment]

    Prime Rib Roast

I think it depends more on how my people prefer the end piece! Binding them end-to-end will provide the maximum number of non-end pieces! I've had great success cooking overnight at the destination temperature, though not for anything quite that spendy! :)

? lose ACA subsidy if below fpl?

I 'think' the threshold is $16,243: http://hbex.coveredca.com/toolkit/renewal-toolkit/downloads/OE3-Income-Guidelines.pdf I've been confronting the spreadsheet again this week! With taxable income from my credit union at around $885 and 'non-taxable' dividends around $3600, to exceed 138% of...

Anyone Signed for ACA for 2016?

My premium went up by 50%. My silver plan went up $20 per month and my subsidy has gone down by $20 per month with no change in income. Two years to Medicare, where I'll be paying much more!

    Photo Processing Software

I'll give a shout-out to IrfanView, which is less about editing, more about processing. It allows use of Adobe style 8BF filters, like the ones from Topaz Labs. It even handles one or two RAW formats, though nothing remotely comprehensive.

what did you do today? (2008-2015) (closed)

Umm, I downloaded a show off the internets where many men spoke ill of one another; I think some of them believed 'some' of what they were saying! :) Oh, and I finally figured out how to preserve my 'saved' stations on my Pi MusicBox!

    Gluten Free

After reading WheatBelly early last year, I decided to avoid wheat for a protracted period. If I don't feel like cooking, there's a bunch of 'gluten free' items sitting in the freezer waiting to be zapped. Last month I tried Udi's Italian Sausage Lasagna -- pretty good IMO.
