Poll: What is your definition of wealthy as defined by Annual Withdrawal Rate?

I cringe when I see a quote like this. The younger generations hate us because we aren't paying attention to their plight. The unaffordability of decent housing coupled with continuing limited pay while trying to pay off student loans and medical debt is discouraging them from their pursuit of...

    Thinking of retiring and scared

I spread sheeted my financials to death when retiring at 60. The only thing I precluded was the expense of grandkids. Boy, were they more expensive than I ever imagined! Don't retire with debt. Good luck!

Time lag between Fed rate hike and CD rates

vanguard is offering 3% on 3 year cd's. earlier last year I was able to get 3.25% on a 3 year from them. I agree that it looks like a retreat for interest rates, but that kind of argues to me that we really don't have much of a liquidity issue

Question about the economy, stock market, and near future

I agree. I think the impact of tariffs is grossly understated. Take a look around your house, and see how much of your stuff comes from China. It's frightening. as for industrial espionage, I blame the corporations for not taking better care of their technology. Some gave it up for greed...

European River Cruise in Spring 2019?

just got back from Prague to Paris via Viking. great service, caring wait/cabin staff, good entertainment, lots of wine at lunch and dinner. We skipped several tours to see the cities ourselves. No issues with water levels. We enjoyed ourselves more on our jaunt through the Dordogne region...

    More fun playing with telemarketers

"Have taken some time to mess with the “Microsoft” guy trying to help me with my computer. I kept telling him how greatful I was that he called because I was indeed having problems with my computer" He told me he was calling about problems with my Microsoft computer. I pretended not to know...

Co-signed student loan- Sue the borrower?

I'd buy the loan back from the bank, pay it off, forgive the loan, and then send you niece and the IRS a 1099 for the debt forgiveness. That way she'd be on the hook for some of it, and you'll feel better about yourself.

    Structured Products

I noticed on the Fido site that they offer structured products. "Structured products offer investors the potential to earn returns tied to the performance of an index or basket of securities." Some look to be fairly expensive on the fee side, others less so. They limit both the downside and...

    Gout

I have been battling gout for years. Usually get an attack after getting dehydrated, either from activity, weather, or wine. You can get overnight relief with a steroid shot, however you shouldn't get these too often. Allpurinol daily helps.

    winners who quit after winning

my sincerest thanks for the replies...got a lot to consider about risk vs inflation, and appreciate the collective wisdom of the group. I can't discuss this with DW, she doesn't care about the details-her only demand is that we don't have to eat Alpo in our later years..... Red- I remember...

    winners who quit after winning

I have often seen the comment here "why keep playing the game after you have won?" with the recent uptick in the market, this comment has started to haunt me. I am not a market timer, and this question is not geared towards that issue. I am feeling like I no longer need the risk in my...

Buying Washer/Dryer set - helpful hints?

years ago my uncle put his washer out on the curb. the trash guys wouldn't pick it up without a $25 appliance disposal fee. He put a "for sale" sign on it, and the washer was gone the next morning.

Any advice for a Tinnitus sufferer?

    Final arrangements

DW & I have both donated our bodies to science, just as my father did. They took him away, and 3 months later returned his ashes to us. it's a much simpler act than having to go through the funeral home formalities. we dispersed his ashes on his favorite hunting/fishing spot.

    Thought I was retired....
