As a longtime LBYM person I have pretty much stayed the course. However..... when the DOW dropped below 19k I was a bad Boglehead and spent my fun money on some well known stocks. Have done very well with the purchase, but who knows, I may soon be buying more when the DOW falls through 16k...

USAA bank appears to credit my account a day or two early. Both SS and military retirement. I suspect the federal electronic transfers go out to the direct deposit accounts the day before?

My bad I confused my wife taking SS at 66 based on what I would have received if I took SS at 66 rather than at 70, That's what happens when you get 'old'. :facepalm:

FWIW- I'm long retired and I'm one of those who waited until 70 for SS (actually 69.5) because I'm madly in love with my better half. That said, your spouse does not necessarily get all your SS when you die. If you waited past 66 to take SS as I did she will only get paid for what you earned at...

I never use free wifi for banking or other secure transactions, but I have used my Verizon connection for bank transfers etc.

I voted for 'other' . I never looked at work as "servitude" but rather as an interesting challenge. I enjoyed my 22 years in the military almost as much as my 12 years full timing in an RV. I enjoyed the many challenges of being a small business owner, along with the challenges of a late in life...

Not really- for a run from the kitchen to the street a decent 100' snake will run $500+. The problem was a root intrusion about 75' from the house. Roots unlike toilet paper can require some serious torque to break through, and a $20 snake-toy would be like using dental floss to tow a stuck...

Paid $75 two months ago for running a plumbers snake from kitchen to street. Two years ago it cost $50 for much the same work

I'm 72 and much prefer texting to voice mail and email. Responses are often almost instantaneous and you get notified if text was not delivered. I keep my backup brain (smartphone) on me most of the time and now purchasing an Apple 4 watch for its medical tracking and emergency response...
