Medigap plan G vs plan N

excess charges is a giant nothingburger used by unscrupulous sales people to get the larger commissions on plan G. It’s also easier to explain. I’ll gladly pay my own deductible and mild copays to keep from losing my plan later to excess increases brought about by the sicker pool of the...

NC Plan N carriers and rate increases?

We have plan n through Aetna and they have been awesome. Got the first increase in 5 years when we turned 70 which was expected and reasonable. Claims handling has been perfect in first 5 years and we have had lots of med bills paid.

Is it a sin for wanting to own a nice car?

Not a sin but maybe a magnet for problems you don’t want from people who will consider you rich and greedy and a great target. Nobody is following me around to rob me in my 2002 Subaru Outback. I’m stealth wealth. But if you think it will bring you joy…

    AARP worth it?

My wife nearly divorced me when I told her I joined to save a few bucks on a motel. Had to call them back and cancel. They didn’t seem like that was unusual. Turns out they stand for everything I hate too. She was right. But I do pay more for motels I guess.

    Medicare advantage plan

When early lung cancer was recently detected on a CRT scan I was so thankful not to have a "Not Medicare-Not an Advantage" plan. I have had multiple consults for surgery in another state and I don't have to ask anyone, or get any approvals. This because I have real medicare, and a real...

    Ugh - Toilet Problems

I like my Toto's but even with them I have recently had to replace a fill valve and drain valve myself. Yes, it was warranted, but they are slow to send new ones and it's easier just to get replacements off of Amazon. They were cheap and so I ordered spares. I used Korky brand who seem to be...

Do you click “AGREE” without reading privacy policy, terms of service, or other docs?

As an EMT myself I once had a surgery that was divided into two parts. In the first part they inserted a guide rod into my kidney. In the second part they were to remove kidney stones. I woke up in between the two procedures with two strangers in the room and asked who they were. They told me...

    Any ideas what this is?

You said it was under a Hackberry tree so it's probably hackberries for some squirrels (or birds) winter food supply. Mine store things like this in my cars and trucks engine compartments.

Amway - how do you respond?

I used to ask them to provide me an IRS form 8821 which would release their income tax records to me proving all the high income they claimed to be making. Never had any takers. But sure got a lot of excuses.

Managing parent's finances - how to invest?

I’ve been doing the same. Mom just turned 90. Does your mom’s state of residence have an income tax? If so, Treasuries and agency bonds, and some others may be free of state income tax which will help her keep more if the yields to cds are comparable. They are also much more liquid. I also...

    Stealth Wealth

Hahaha! My father spent vacations in Mexico and he was a real sucker for phony over the top Rolex copies that cost almost nothing. Mom recently sent me a bag of them, I would never wear any them but I can't bear to throw them away. I do occasionally wear his vintage and well worn 70's Seiko. It...

    Stealth Wealth

Total stealth. Modest home exterior. Old cars and a 1998 Ford F250 pickup. Our kids don't suspect a thing or they would call more often. I think our UPS and FedEx driver might be a little suspicious. If they were delivering a Rolex I'd tell them it was a part to repair my toilet. But you can...

    How To Exercise Your Brain?

When I retired about 5 years ago I started taking bluegrass guitar lessons weekly with a great instructor. This also has a social aspect as we get together large groups of like minded musicians for jam sessions and campouts monthly or so. What a blast! Good brain exercise for sure.
