    Moved into CCRC today

We moved into a life care community about 5 months ago. To get on the waitlist (fully refundable deposit) pretty basic info required. Most important, a simple financial worksheet, to ensure one has the assets to support entry fee, monthly costs, etc. We were told waitlist for 1 1/2 - 2 years...

How to decide on a CCRC

Great info. We started our search just over a year ago, got on a 1 yr-18 month wait list. A perfect until came available early and we moved in March 1. Still getting settled. Learned so much here about ccrc, we are happy with our decision. Research is critical!

How to decide on a CCRC

This is the best advise of this entire thread! We are in the exact same situation, and don’t have a viable backup plan.

How to decide on a CCRC

We are on a waitlist. Asked that question, because we are considering a one bedroom just to get in, and residents get first shot at newly vacated units. They discourage us upgrading, but not against the rules. Will have to pay the $5000 fee to have the “newer” unit upgraded. Might be worth it.

    Rethinking CCRC living

We got on a waitlist about 6 months ago, est wait of 18 months to 2 years, with a fully refundable deposit. DH disabled, I worry whether he will pass the part about living independently. A good friend also paid deposit, thinking same time frame. Last week the CCRC offered her the exact unit...

Have you come across a great CCRC?

I started researching Life Care Communities when I first read this topic. Read a few really great books, toured a few, and just put a fully refundable deposit on our favorite community, in order to join the wait list. Depending on your preferences, one could be on the wait list for a few years...

    Homeowners Self Insurance

They buy a renters policy which includes the underlying liability coverage required by the umbrella.

    Homeowners Self Insurance

Be sure and figure in the value of your personal property (contents) and loss of use (in case of a significant loss) and a possibly significant liability exposure. Overall exposure way more than $250,000 or $500,000.

    What was your greatest epiphany?

I read this one a long time go, and the light came on, life got easier. “Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in your life that want you in theirs; the ones that accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile and love you no matter what.”

    Impulsive-ish retirement

Welcome! Spent most of my life in small town Alaska, but was happy to leave the snow behind, kind of. You will learn so much here.

My first experience with Atrial Fibrillation

My DH just starting down path. On meds, but because of high fall risk the blood thinners aren’t the best option. They are recommend installing a device called Watchman so we are exploring that. Pretty overwhelming right now.

    Pizza ovens

I wasted a few pizzas before discovering cornmeal. That is the best advice! And let it set in the oven at least a minute or two (depending on oven temp) before trying to rotate it.

    Question about umbrella insurance

    RIP:Beverly Cleary

She was a second cousin to me, so I particularly like her two memoirs- A Girl From Yamhill and My Own Two Feet. Neat to read about my family..a hundred years ago. Never got to meet her, but sure tried through other family members. I think she had too many gatekeepers. RIP Beverly.

    Writing memories for future generations

I have been working on the same thing, in concert with my oldest sister who lives several states away. We are making great progress sharing chapters back and forth. Since she is 7 years older, her memories are different or more in-depth than mine, esp the early years. It has brought us closer...

Talking to my wife about finances

Thank you for the suggestion, EastWest Gal about using the term ‘spouse’ in the title. When I started reading the thread, it bothered me, mainly because I am concerned that so many women really don’t care about their finances. But then realized we are hearing only one side of the story and...

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage... yea or nea?

I agree! I was in the insurance industry for many years. One claim that stuck with me. Insured’s daughter and two of her girlfriends (all 17) were out late playing bingo. Stopped at a red light on way home, uninsured drunk driver plowed into the back of her car, none of the girls survived. The...

New Rav4 purchase falls apart .... not sure what to do

I am now reading as much as I can find about the 2020 Ford Escape AWD. That's how I will spend Sunday. And I do have a Ford dealer I trust, near Kansas City. Right now I am leaning 90% toward walking out of the Rav4. Thanks everyone for calming, soothing and advising me. Love my 2019...

Were you nervous when you retired?

Congrats! I believe my DH left the same mega-Corp way up north, about 21 years ago. Was a pretty big surprise to him, took awhile to recover, but ended up being good for both of us. Enjoy your new freedom.
