Signing up for Medicare is a Frustrating and Expensive Process!?

This thread makes the case for having a plan and learning what you will need to do while still a few years away from actually going through the process. It should be hand in hand with your financial health. I started my review when I retired at 58 to prepare myself. Yes, things will change...

What is your age and your AA for your nest egg?

These two (VOO and VTI) charts match each other. Is there any benefit of one over the other? A lot of suggestions here run together. Not seeing much diversification.

    IRS Refund delays - Efile

This is the second time I have gotten a letter asking to confirm/tie my ID to my return. Three weeks after accepted. Got the money in my account a week later, much sooner the 6 week potential stated in the letter.

Made A Mistake On My Federal Return. File An Amended Return ASAP, Or Wait ?

I got a Schedule K after I filed. But, the item in question was on my Form8949 pulled from E*Trade as well. Although, I did need to find the cost basis to complete. The gain on 8949 was a little less than the Schedule K ($56). I will wait and see. Hope that is the best route.

Is age 60 considered early retired?

I retired at 58 in '18 the DW in '20 at 55 (health issues, but doing better) never had a high income but we are still almost 1%'ers in net worth in the Seattle area. Shocking, as we were not high income earners. Never chased higher housing. But we can do what we want. I just got tired of my...

Anyone Regret doing a Roth Rollover ?

Anyone Regret doing a Roth Rollover ?

I know they 'say' you don't have to pay it back. But turbo tax tried to get me to put the Feb 2021 funds in the 2020 return. It was a 1 to 1 difference. The 'loan' was my word, call it what you want but they get the money back. It did not reduce the first 2020 funds they paid out. Why did...

Anyone Regret doing a Roth Rollover ?

Okay, I must be dense. What is the issue with the stimulus checks. They take the money back. I left off the one payed Dec. through Feb. (I got mine in Feb. 2021) so I did not count it for my 2020 taxes. I got a nice letter asking for that exact amount of money more from me. It is just a...

Weird Question... How often do you count your money/assets?

Monthly, as far as documenting, mostly to compare my investments to what my FA has of mine. Then just a look see throughout the month or if I want to take advantage of something.

Sale of (not our) property tax question

Okay, getting a little worried now I found the copy of DW’s papers. There was a form for a 1099-S exemption for not reporting a 1099-S to the IRS, one each for the in laws but not one for DW. The check was cut only to them nothing to DW. I think we will be calling the Title and Escrow on Monday.

Sale of (not our) property tax question

Okay, Thanks for the guidance. I was going to go on a in law rant but I will restrain myself some. The amount they mentioned DW would get, might just covert taxes from my guesswork. That is if we do get a 1099-S and it indicates 1/3 for our responsibility. No idea what the split could be...

Sale of (not our) property tax question

Wow. Fast responses, thanks. First the wife had to sign for the sale, I had to sign one page that I knew where the check was going. Told it was a community state thing. There was no beneficiary indication on the title. One check in full to the in laws as far as I know. How do I find out if...

Sale of (not our) property tax question

I’m not sure how to deal with this come tax time. (2020) DW was put on the title of a recreational property for inheritance thinking by the in laws. I don’t get the benefit. We put no money into the purchase. But now they have sold the prop. for a large profit. They would like to gift...

Roth Conversion Taxes - Perspective (I Needed)

I did not think it through on my 2019 conversion. Used RMD to pay roll taxes. I have an inherited RMD that I did at the end of the year but only payed a 20% tax on the RMD. I should have payed ~80%-100%. Now I owe what I got as cash and a penalty unless I annualize my years income/expenses...

What does locking down your credit really impact? Lots of good stuff here. Gumby(post #5) noted issues with a low score but not about locking things down or is it the same thing? What happens when you lock your credit down with a high rating I’m currently above 830 DW is close to the 800’s...

    Poll: Annual Roth Conversion Timing?

This is the first year having an inherited IRA that I'm using the RMD's to pay the taxes of a conversion within my 401K to ROTH. I'm doing this at the end of the year so the funds stay invested for the year and is not sitting too long until I do the taxes. I guess one is not necessary for the...

Schwab Announces Zero Commission Stock Trades--E*Trade and TD Ameritrade Tanking

E*Trade does the same E*Trade has a "Bank" savings, not a sweeps, at 1.75% and also now has free trades. The stock price swing is a silly day trading knee-jerk reaction. Schwab somehow just went first and got all the press. I'm an investor not a day trader. Although it does make for a buying...

    Inheritance - separate or co-mingled

Inherited IRA's went to a financial planner to manage. While non-IRA went to my trading acct. But, all will be treated as the same when spent. For us things are separate with a co-mingled acct. for household expenses. We married later in life with established financial affairs and opposing...
