How to Invest 401k Funds When Guaranteed Income Sources Pays for Most of Our Expenses

Not exactly the same G-Man. I'm self insured for LTC but my pension has a 4% max cola based on whatever SSA gives. So 2023 SSA bump was 8.2% & this year it's 3.2%. So I got a pension bump of 4% both years & even if SSA is 0 this year, I'll still get 3.4% in 2025. That's where we differ. I really...

    What have you read recently?

Not sure this counts but I've been reading a lot more stories like this: https://www.the-sun.com/news/9998478/wells-fargo-bank-account-drained-zelle-scam-california/ I'm not sure why the bank is liable for her stupidity. Yes, I feel sorry for her for 2 reasons: (1) she was duped (2) she got to...

    Blow that Dough 2023

wow that's a long LONG day. I'm fortunate enough to be able to do most places nonstop (from SFO). I pay more for a nonstop aisle seat but worth it. (Still to go in 2023: November in Italy, April 2024 in Australia then up to Japan - 4 weeks, November 2024 transatlantic starting with a week in...

    Blow that Dough 2023

I'm outside all the time. Bc I'm in sunny California I've got great weather 10 months out of the year with 1 hot & 1 cold month. I just don't do the gardening. I have a company for that. (Well when not traveling)

    Blow that Dough 2023

I am changing my yard. Not really landscaping per se more xeriscaping. Joining the no-lawn trend. So I removed a dead 30×30 manzanita and uncovered a fledgling oak. Not that expensive so far. Planted new native trees in front. Decided to fixed a failing patio. Still not so bad so far. Now I'm a...

What did you do today? - 2023/2024 version

Planted 3 more bulb gardens. Was going to rip out the sprinkler system but decided to just disconnect it. It's not going to be used again as I'm just replicating the plants on the hills around me. Fixing the pavers this month then I've 'xeriscaped' with almost all natives & just a little hard...

    Tax estimate software

Ok. Pretended like I was doing taxes & looked up result on tax table. Really roughed out. Seems like I won't owe. My stuff is super simple: Gross pension - non taxable amt + dividends / interest - carryover capital losses = taxable income. Less standard deduction. Look up amt on table...

    Tax estimate software

I've estimated my 2023 income (pretty easy when it's pension, inyerest, dividend on 2 ETFs) and put the #s into AARPs program. 3 times. Exact same numbers. Answer varies from 2208 refund, 0 refund, owe 800+. No issue with owing less than 1k as that's what I aim for. But why 3 answers? Bottom...

    Online Will and Trust Software

My parents had an AB Trust & will drawn up by an incompetent attny (my cousin) but fortunately I ran into a VERY HELPFUL Wells Fargo Estate banker when I had only a day left to have the funds from sale of final property released. I learned so much (too much?) from him. In California the house...

    I've had it...

I'd downgrade in a heartbeat to get to 30 yrs in ... But then I pensioned out as soon as I could even though staying another 5 years would've gotten me 25% more. (Sis signed / left on her actual 50th birthday [emoji4]) In your case your pension will be 68k and you need 75k. Surely she takes...

Has anyone Claimed Travel Insurance from Chase Credit Card

I ALWAYS get it from the rental company. My concern is that I'll have to lay out the cash then wait (and wait) for the reimbursement. $165 is cheap for peace if mind IMHO
