Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I don't watch the news since I don't have any way to watch TV. I do following news stories on multiple platforms in text form and maybe a brief video occasionally but never watch any full news programs.

shameless ask for praise for walking

Absolutely too much can be a problem. A lot of USPS and UPS drivers walk 10-15 miles per day 5 days a week every week and have a lot of problems directly associated with doing so. Walking is an excellent thing to do in moderation but you can overdue it. Congrats on the 11 miles walk. Keep...

    New Car Dealer REQUIRES Financing

I bought a new Kia in March of 2022. That was when inventory was low and there was no negotiating below MSRP on anything. The price was MSRP regardless of financing or cash but they insisted I get a financing quote. It was a good rate but I still paid cash. They seemed unhappy about that. I...

    March Madness

Yeah, SC was just too big. They rebounded everything and they couldn't be stopped on either side of the court. Iowa had some good streaks but for the most part they had an off day and to beat SC Iowa had to be at their best.

    March Madness

She may not be the best player in the WNBA but the second he turns pro she will be offered endorsements worth 8 figures so she's good either way.

    First million is enough

You must be on Medicare without a supplement? On an ACA plan your Max OOP would be lower than that.

    Buying a New Car

$37,490 base model with no add-ons and not counting tax, title, ect. Only way it would be low 30's is if your state has a big tax credit and you got no add-ons at all.

    Monthly Grocery Expenditure

I don't do this and don't recommend it but my Grandmother put A LOT of salt on everything she ate for her whole life and lived to 88. She didn't need to go to a doctor a single time from her last kid at age 20 until she broke her hip at around age 80. My other Grandmother was advised to limit...

    Monthly Grocery Expenditure

Your food budget is more than I spend on everything in life most years. Yes I eat every day. I had oatmeal for $0.35 for breakfast, Progresso soup for lunch at $1.49. Dinner will be Spaghetti and Meatballs for $1.25. Add in 4 bottles of water for $0.50 and 2 snacks for under a $1 and I get a...

    Monthly Grocery Expenditure

As with most spending I am on the far low end of most people. For a single person I spend around $150-160/mo. I don't eat or drink out at all so that is for everything I consume.

Most people retire on way less than $1M. You won't have all the luxuries but you can definitely get by. I personally don't spend much of anything on "fun money". I only spend around $10-15K per year most years. I would rather live cheap than work with my chronic pain issues.

With that net worth it shouldn't be too difficult to arrange your investments so you make enough to qualify for ACA subsidies but low enough to get max or near max subsidies. That means you may have a $0 per month premium with a small deductible and maybe around $1000 Max Out of Pocket per year...

It's definitely doable if you keep costs down. I have never made more than $49K in a year and my average income is under $30K and I have over $500K at 44. My best earning years were in my 20's and I had over $100K saved before I turned 30 and then the long bull market started right after that...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Thanks, I had no idea. Who knows how long it would have been before I figured it out. I'll be busy early this upcoming week but i'll binge it later in the week.

Here we go again, it’s Daylight Saving Time

I have never noticed any issue from the time change. It seems a lot of people have physical issues due to a one hour change in sleep. Seems odd to me. I just have 2 clocks I need to change and that is the only impact that the time change has on me.

    Hip Replacement?

Most people have very good results from total hip replacement but not everyone. I had mine done 6 years ago at age 38 and I still have chronic pain and reduced mobility. I can't be sure but I think my bad recovery was due to going back to work and doing too much too soon. Give plenty of time to...

It varies depending on where you live, whether you are single or married and if you want a Silver plan to get a low deductible and MOOP or willing to take a bronze plan, also if you are willing to accept an HMO instead or PPO. I can make $19K and get a Silver HMO plan with $50 deductible and...

No premiums at my income level. Nine out of the last 12 years I have gotten my insurance from the ACA and my premium has never been higher than around $20/mo. Last year I went on my states equivalent to Medicaid because I didn't want to pull enough out of my retirement savings to hit the minimum...

Including the appraised value of my paid off house it looks like I have reached $500K net worth at age 44. Not sure I could actually get $185K for my house and certainly wouldn't clear that after paying the realtor and other costs but, on paper, I could claim a $500K net worth. Considering I...
