What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Just completed Killers of the flower moon. Pretty good because we focused on the tragedy and the acting. It could have been 45 minutes shorter but I would see it again.

I enjoyed it too. Beckham is a hell of a guy, and a good family man. Reminds me of Gretsky. Victoria also come across as a good mom and devoted to her husband's career.

Poll:For Those in Retirement 10+ years

Been at it for 21 years. NW has kept pace with S&P500. Have started serious BTD phase as of 2020 with luxury condo purchase and 6 months south, one month Europe. No longer track to budget, just reconcile EOY.

Getting depressed about illnesses and deaths

We are in the final fourth leg of our fourth trip to Italy. We are doing the undiscovered places of Bari and Palermo, in addition to revisiting Rome and Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. We struggled with whether we could do it but are glad we did. "If not now, when?" So I suggest to fill your...

    Talking to 'regular folks'

You just wait. Eventually they stop saying "you're too young" and when you get on the bus or are in a store, they assume you qualify. Once the bus driver asked for proof and I said "why thank you" but did not have to show proof.

    Talking to 'regular folks'

I started out saying I was a retired CEO which I landed from my business process engineering practice. They would ask what company sometimes. After blank stares I changed it to Private Portfolio Manager. The follow-up question was who for and I said confidential.

    RIP Jimmy Buffett

One of the big disappointments of many visitors to Mexico is that they do not offer Texmex. They have some great alternatives but a nacho plate is almost certainly going to disappoint.

    Paranormal stories

So we moved across the country and bought a new (1 yo) house on an acreage. It had been built by an Italian contractor and he and his family had lived in it for 6 months. During the first week, the hardwood floors creaked and doors slammed in the middle of the night. The Family Room TV came on...

    RIP Jimmy Buffett

I think he made the margarita a "thing" and probably spurred interest in Mexico. I remember sitting in an open bar by the marina in Key West and thinking "This is a JB kind of place!"

    RIP Bob Barker

The mention of Bill Cullen brings back more memories. (Barker was accused of harassment but it did not involve contact!) RIP Bob.

Fun Poll: How Do You Eat Corn On The Cob

I tried eating it the other way and I liked it. Thanks for the survey.

    Stealth Wealth

This reminded me that early in my career, I used to start acting like my manager in thought and actions. When it came time to promote, I was always the logical choice. My Dad was a poor immigrant from Glasgow, the youngest of 5 children who came over in steerage with their parents. With a grade...

What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Started Rabbit Hole with Jack Bower, oops Keanu Reeves. Action flick with disjointed sequences but it eventually hangs together, 7 episodes.

    RIP - Robbie Robertson

Robbie was the lead-in band for Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks with Levon Helm when I saw them at La Coq d'Or in Toronto. He and I were both the same age. I followed him after that. Big loss!

At What Age Do You EXPECT Your Nest Egg $ To Peak?

I used one of those longevity calculators to estimate nest egg mean lifetime needed: M 88 (+-4) F 93 (+-5) and so do not peak during those years. However my portfolio is a cherry pick from S&P500 so it has exceeded the index most years. I assume that they will have a total return 2% ahead of...

    Stealth Wealth

One of the changes is that there are many apparently rich people who live the life on credit. Many of the upper middle class live like they always lived. They might travel business class and travel more often, but that is not visible to the neighbors.

Things that have gotten better than the olden days

I had to clean out the family home when my Dad passed. Fridge still working after being replaced when electricity switched from 50 to 60 cycle(50's). Stove dated back to 40's when they switched from gas to electric. Same old black Bell phone on the wall. Sony Trinitron color TV (19") from the...

Pulling the hose around for gas

I never hesitate. In Mexico and the Vancouver suburb of Richmond, there are attendants and they do a good job of handling the other side. I recommend against it for DW as it could aggravate her arthritis in her upper arms. Too often she insists on filling up while returning from shopping!

    Poll:Barbie

Watched them on successive nights last week. Barbie seems to be bringing out the chick in females. Sort of women's lib without the butches. But very over-hyped. Oppenheimer was a drudge. Long, tedious, and inaccurate. I would not recommend either to this audience.

    How well traveled are you?

Yes they used to just count European countries as one but I guess they complained about US counting as 50. Typically in 2, 4 or 6. US has also been divided into 70 and I have visited 54.
