Cost of RV vs hotels and B&Bs

This is a good point. The whole reason I bought my Jeep is that all I have to do to disconnect the drive train is to put it in "neutral". I thought Hondas did, too. Maybe it was just the CRV I looked at? I know Explorer's need a modification that runs ~$300

Cost of RV vs hotels and B&Bs

Towing a car or a "toad" takes a little getting used to, but it's not a big deal. We did our research and spent a little more getting set up for safety and convenience. We purchased an all-terrain tow bar $750, and a tow bar for my jeep was ~$450 installed. An additional cost was a tow brake by...

Cost of RV vs hotels and B&Bs

Love our Rv, hate hotels I just got back from a week long adventure with my girlfriends and kids (3 moms and 3 girls for 2700 miles). Had a great time and altogether we spent about $1500 for gas, tolls, overnight lodging, and food. We figured it was probably a wash financially if we had done...

    Spring has Sprung!

Mid 60's today; the first really gorgeous day we have had here for about 4 months! The Mid-Atlantic is a real downer in the winter. The daffodils and crocus are blooming. Life is good!

Health and Vigor As Good As Your Last Meal

I had half-sweet potato, one low-fat turkey sausage. I am a firm believer that you are what you eat. I hardly EVER drink soda any more. Today during my run I stopped into a cafe for some water, ended up getting a diet coke. My stomach was messed UP for about half an hour; cramps and just felt...

    Weekly Workout Check-In

Ran and walked about 20 miles this week (not including the 10 or so miles I walked at work ^-^). Had about 3 hours of killer weight work-outs. My butt is singing when I try to sit down! Going to the Keys next week...Have to look decent in my new bikini :)

How McMansions Could Turn Into Slums

I am surprised by this, as I always believed people tried to leave the city and move to the 'burbs. My family would never move to the city; being a small town girl, I break out in hives when I get near a big city (pollution, traffic, crime, etc)

    Amazing, isn't it?

The 180 degree swing in the attitude of the market pundits. Just a few days ago they were giddy with happiness about how we were going to avoid the recession: almost high-fiving each other. Kramer made me want to gag with his over-the-top predictions. Now they are doom and gloom, making it...

    401(k) Hardship Withdrawal- TV NEWS

Tee Hee, I don't think you'll get a lot of people who strive so hard to save money confessing to withdrawing from their 401K! DH did once when we were young and stupid.

    Weekly Physical Fitness?

Since we have weekly weigh-ins, how about weekly progress reports about HOW we're going to lose the weight. I am actually at my goal weight and trying to gain muscle at this point. Yesterday I ran 4.5 miles, did a bunch of crunches watching the TV before going to work 10 hours. Today I am...

Oil - is it moving towards a bubble

Yesterday I heard an OPEC report on the tube that stated they are keeping supplies low because they want to enjoy the 60+trillion profit made last year off oil. The sheiks are certain that the bust in the US will severely diminish their profit this year, as the result could decrease barrel...

    Watching MSNBC

You'd think someone died. They have been so sullen this morning; I guess finally admitting we're in a recession is tough, as they've been talking up for weeks about how we were in "the" bottom. Do you really think this channel is objective? It's almost like they try to "sell" you on...

This is for you RV'ers on the board!

This was a recent post on my blog, but thought I'd post a copy here, since so many desire to travel when ER. I would love to go on an RV trip around Europe when the girls are grown and after we travel the US and Canada: One of the reasons we RV is related to cleanliness. Do you remember the...

Why house prices have to fall

I don't think stagnation of prices would help the disparity in house payments as a % of income. Disposable income is already ridiculously low for lending standards. The increase in home prices relative to earnings has lowered it even more.

Does anyone choose to keep working, but less?

Actually, I have read it, and found it an easy read. I figure that if I enjoy what I do, and it allows me to do what I want (travel), then why give it up? I personally think DH would freak if he didn't have something he HAD to do on a regular basis; he can't just relax.

Recommend a good heart rate monitor?

I sure wouldn't want to be kicked in the chest when wearing one of those. I thought it hurt under my sports bra. I have a polar I don't use anymore, I can tell what my heart rate is by my exertion level now. Although it was beneficial the first year or so. Anyone interested?

Bernanke wants the banks to do what?!

Um, now I wish I had a huge mortgage! Did I hear the guy right when he asked banks to forgive part of the mortgage? Just right it off? Yeah, I bet the banks will be jumping on board this one!

Does anyone choose to keep working, but less?

We are thinking of not so much "retiring" completely and early, but backing off on working. This will allow us to move sooner, live in a location that we want to retire in, and still have our off days to enjoy the locale. DH wants to become a fly-fishing guide, while I love my job and don't...

So, you wanna finance that LASIK?

DH had his 4 or 5 yrs ago, no problems. I grilled my optometrist before the procedure, and she admitted that if they use special contacts in the event of complications. We do have a friend that was unsuccessful with his Lasik; he could see far away, but had really bad reading sight right...

    TENS unit

The nerves work via an electrical-type impulse. The TENS disrupt the transmission of this impulse. Sometimes just a little disruption can cease the spasm. I've had TENS therapy for an injured ankle, as well as whiplash. LOVED IT!
