2019 YTD Investment Performance Thread

Up 7.45% YTD with a 55/35/10 AA.

After 3 innings up 9.29%.

+8.08% YTD Mar 31, 2018.... a great first quarter!!

slightly behind my benchmark VSMGX at 8.63% YTD :( ... I suspect becaue VSMGX is more bonds and I have a lot of fixed income money parked in VMMXX at 2.49% that I need to deploy and meanwhile bonds had a good quarter.

3.76% below all-time high

+7.02% YTD Feb 28, 2019

vs +0.88% YTD Feb 28, 2018
vs +7.06% for my benchmark VSMGX

did a minor rebalance on Feb 19 to sell some domestic and international equities... 2.5% and 0.3% of total portfolio, respectively.

4.57% below all-time high.

Q1 11.73% vs benchmark 9.54% (Vanguard Target Retirement 2030, VTHRX)

Asset allocation (stock/bond) follows VTHRX, currently 70/30.

Top-performing fund was Vanguard Real Estate Index (VGSLX).

End of First Quarter 2019

YTD (March 29, 2019) returns for a collection of 'close-to' 60/40 funds (from Morningstar.com and Vanguard.com):

8.63% VSMGX Vg LifeStrategy Moderate Growth (60/40)
9.57% VBIAX Vg Balanced Index (60/40), no foreign
8.21% DGSIX DFA Global 60/40 I, small-cap & value tilted
8.82% VTTVX Vg Target Retirement 2025 (62/38)

7.82% VTWNX Vg Target Retirement 2020 (53/47)*
8.66% VWENX Vg Wellington (67/33)*

Some others
00.61% VMMXX Vg Prime Money Market
02.94% VBTLX Vg Total US Bond Index
02.65% VSCSX Vg Short-term corporate bond index
14.04% VTSAX Vg Total US Stock Market
10.24% VTIAX Vg Total Int'l Stock Market
17.28% VGSLX Vg REIT Index

*These 2 funds VTWNX and VWENX are outliers because they are not that close to a 60/40 asset allocation this year.

At 61/35/4 I’m up 10.1. Slightly underweight international and tech compared to Fidelity’s recommendations.

Up 6.8% since jan 1st. About half is stock the rest is fixed income and other like annuities (25%), bond funds, metals, and direct owned RE.

Mine is a more throw it at the wall and see what sticks approach so have had some real dogs that were essentially lost money during last 12 months.

My all time high was march of 2018 below that by 2 hundredth of a percent right now.

Curious what % return is your bond allocation YTD(if you wish to provide).

If I could easily get that I would be happy to provide. Unfortunately, I don't track it separately since several funds are a mixture of equity and bonds. So I am just looking at total value, and accounting for spending.

And, in fairness, my equity allocation has probably increased somewhat (2%, at most) from the last time I calculated it in January. I usually only look at it in detail 2-3 times a year.

Down- 13.85% YTD. Still waiting for SPX to drop to 2200 and then the nice ride back to 4000 or so!

I know this is "year to date", but what about the interest that's not posted until tomorrow night? :)

+10.5% @ 70/30

Mar 29 YTD: 13.85%

I was as high as 15.5% on Mar 21, but many of my stocks stumbled.

Down- 13.85% YTD. Still waiting for SPX to drop to 2200 and then the nice ride back to 4000 or so!

How coincidental is this?

I remember that your performance for 2018 was positive and quite good while mine was negative and fairly bad, but I do not remember the exact figures.

None of my accounts will post anything on Saturday nor Sunday, so there will be no change (pun intended!).

I just had to look up the numbers for last year.

You posted first, and were up +11.04%.

I posted later, and was down -11.40%.

Almost the same with two digits transposed, and in the opposite direction.

+11.13, which is great, except I was -7.4% last year. It’s all relative. Still, no complaints.

February 2019

  • +8.54% Total Portfolio Value increase YTD
  • +6.71% YTD Performance, total pie weighted
  • 50-45-05 (Stk-Bnd-Csh) Target AA
;)
Part-time work schedule in place. Check!
Inheritance partially spliced to portfolio. Check!
Great start to the investing year.
Time to rebalance. Choppy waters ahead, I say...
March 2019

  • +10.75% Total Portfolio Value increase YTD
  • +07.92% YTD Performance, total pie weighted
  • 50-45-05 (Stk-Bnd-Csh) Target AA
:D
Nice end to 1st quarter of 2019.

+9.90% (71/25/4) Vs Benchmark VTHRX 9.54%

Happy with the 1st quarter results, hope we stay positive the rest of the year. :)

Up 10.8% YTD as of 3/31/19, excluding cash and rental properties. Portfolio is basically 70/30, with a value tilt, fairly large REIT position, less international than most, and corporate-heavy bond funds. REITs were up 17%.

Down 1.0% from all-time high at end of January 2018.

Cash is very low at the moment. This feels like an appropriate time to replenish. I feel a storm approaching.
