I have a special need disabled child AND I may have zero earned wages several years before applying for SS benefits so most of the online calculators can't estimate the "family" benefit accurately. I have been using anyPIA for several years to generate the estimates and the PIA amounts looked reasonable compared to the purchasing power of the dollar. However this year, the PIA amounts "look" substantially higher which prompted a question in my mind: Is the PIA amount estimated by anyPIA in today's dollar or at the date of retirement?

Full disclosure: I have used "No increase" assumptions historically but now I started using the assumptions shown in the screenshot. This is what causing the PIA amount increase. My original question still stands but the additional question is "Why the assumptions make a substantial difference in the PIA amount?"
