Christmas tradition?

No, but we broke a tradition this Christmas.

No turkey dinner. Just finger foods. Did not miss it.

No plum pudding w/sauce.

I am 71 and this is the first Christmas that I can remember not having real plum pudding (sometimes hard to find)! Scottish/UK heritage. Did get the proper shortbread though!

But....there is always hope for Hogmanay (New Years Eve/day). In years past years this was as big a day, or bigger, than Xmas in our family. Exact opposite of my spouse's background.

For New Years our past tradition is the 'first footer'. The first person through the door after midnight brings good luck if he has dark hair, carries a lump of coal, a coin , and a piece of fruit cake. Sometimes also a dram of scotch as well. It often meant someone stepping out a few minutes early and coming back in after midnight.
