Class of 2016

I'm getting a bit nervous, but really excited! I get my bonus tomorrow, so that will be out of the way. Then I meet with HR to ask them a couple of questions before I solidify my notice and departure dates. Plan is to announce next Wednesday that I'll be quitting March 2. So excited! Two weeks notice is plenty of time for me....

Last week I decided to not shave until all 3 indices close in the green, thought yesterday was it, but no, nasdaq gave up the ghost in final minutes. Today looked like a sure thing until oil tanked, so i am starting to look like Gandalf...

So how is that beard looking? :)

DW and I FIRED in the past 2 to 3 weeks at age 59. We're new class of 2016 members. WOO HOO!

Welcome to the class of 2016! I'm planning on giving notice in a little over a month. Getting nervous. Getting excited. Getting out of here.

I used to think that I was the only person to get the "Sunday Blues"

Gave my notice last Monday morning. Boss and a few others were shocked. I gave them two weeks, they asked me to stay an additional week and work from home. Sounds good to me! I had been stealthily reassigning tasks and reducing my workload over the past few weeks, so the transition for new folks is easy. I feel the hard part is over. March 9 is my very last day. It's coming fast. My boyfriend will be retiring as well. We're in our early 50s. It feels like a dream. The best part will be when we start living in out travel trailer full time in April. So glad to get rid of the house and everything in it.

Not entirely certain what the happy dance emoji signifies, but if it means you actually retired, then I am dancing away!

It's official. This week I mailed in the paperwork for a 4/29/16 retirement. Just before I turn 60.

I have moved my date from 3/1 to 7/5. This gets me to the end of Megacorp fiscal year and bonus eligibility.

Billk400 5/27/16. I'll be 61; yea not real early, but better than most!

I see there is no standard time / length for giving notice when your retiring (like changing jobs where 2 weeks is the standard notice). I am planning to give 60 days or 8 weeks to enable the company to find and train a replacement before I am gone, but thinking about shortening to 45 days. Just don't want the company to dump crap (pain in the ass projects) on me to complete before I leave. Id give a 30 day notice, but this might be too short. Any opinions or have personal experience in this area?

I'm curious too. I have a small team of system admins. Myself and three others. One just took a job in another department and we should get a replacement requisition for him. Another is retiring in August. One would think that we would get a replacement requisition for him. But I've been told that upper management wants to see if we can be fine with just three. Hmmm, I wondering if they can do just fine with two. I've actually been angry this past week when I heard that. I have thought about giving a couple of months notice, but part of me wants to give them one month now.

Same struggles here. I also want to work from home about 30 hours per month on one project at a time for a rear after, so that factors in. I kind of settled in on giving 8-10 weeks notice. I might even potentially have a good willing replacement in mind.
