I did the opposite. My first day of retirement was last Thursday (Mar 24). I set my alarm for the regular time I would have to get up, let it wake me, turned it off, laughed, and then went back to sleep.
I am targeting for 5/3/16 (age 46). Working for a few days in May will allow me to delay Cobra premiums to start in June.

Gave notice yesterday
Gave notice of my retirement yesterday. My last day will be 5/27/16. The news was received very well (maybe too well?...hmmmm maybe they are happy I am leaving?). They appreciated the approximately 2 month notice so they can have a replacement ready when I leave. Got my bonus last week so there was no reason to wait any longer.
Now its official; no changing my mind now!

I gave verbal notice two weeks ago, and filled out the "voluntary separation" papers yesterday. No going back now! Now I've got to finish a few projects and get ready for the repatriation move in June. There's lots of work there...getting ourselves, our stuff, and dog ready to get packed and shipped back to CA. Also get rid of the 220v appliances and other extra stuff that has accumulated in these past 5 years. We'll be bringing new teak dining and living room furniture home with us (made of second-hand teak).

Congratulations on making it to the other side.
Please let us know how you and your to do list get along. I have mine from when I retired 11 years ago - with most of the items still pending.
I retired only one week ago tomorrow. I am making progress on my to do list. I'd better, there was a lot of deferred maintenance.

Love it! I noticed the same thing for me and the expiration notice said "best before X date". I laughed to myself and thought, yep not getting anymore flesh from me after that date

Bumped my date from March to Dec. Starting to push that OMY syndrome. Doing some remodeling on the house then want to sell it before retiring. Is seems I don't work as fast as I did 30 years ago and weekends used to be much longer.

So this Weds I give verbal notice of my plans to retire on July 5. I offered to work PT at home to help transition some key projects under construction at about 30-40 hrs / month until early 2017. This also would ensure an extra years retirement match (about $5,000 more). Win win really. Got asked to w*rk 20 hours per week until they can find my replacement, but no longer than end of year, then PT as needed for as long as I want from home. During the half time 20 hrs/week period I only need to come in the office once per week for part of a day to help my current one person junior engineer staff. So I said sure and they seemed pretty appreciative. My goal was to leave on a good note so I still have a PT consulting option so this seems like a good arrangement. I will lose benefits at 20 Hrs/ week or less though. I will switch our family to my wife's plan.

Gave notice April 1, 2016.
Lunchtime party with pizza and cake on 4/22/16.
Currently using up compensation time for all but 1/2 day on Thursday. Two more lunches with co-w*rkers this week.
This is kinda like senior ditch week with a big party Friday night as my final sendoff.
Schools out for summer, schools out forever!
