Class of 2017

Well, today is the day! I'm due in Medical in 30 minutes for my exit physical and then it's on to HR for my exit brief and to drop off my badge and then I am done! It took a lot of hand wringing and prayer to get here but now I am so ready to go and start the next phase of my life. Dinner tonight with 14 of my retired friends to celebrate. Life is good!

Congrats, my fellow 2/10/17er! Best of luck and much happiness to us both.

Gave my 60 day notice and have updated my dates: Last work day is now the 13th of March (flying out back to the USA on that date!) with actually being officially retired from the company on the 1st of April (using terminal leave etc.)! :)

I'm still on track for 3/31, and not a moment too soon. We are having problems at an important customer and I am having to fill in for the regular guy there (with added travel and stress). Let me out! I am sticking it out partly because I said I would and partly so I won't lose last year's bonus.

Almost two weeks into retirement and love every bit of it, especially this week when I sat and drank tea watching the birds at the bird feeders in the big snowstorm!:dance:

 14 of your retired friends and yourself is quite a crowd in Metropolis! (Doublechecked that you were indeed on the banks of the Ohio, rather than some big city. :) )

Congrats.

14 would be a big crowd for Metropolis. I actually worked across the river in Kentucky so all but four of them were from Kentucky. Worked with most of them and we are trying to maintain our relationships after leaving the workplace.

I took two weeks vacation before returning for a week to close things out and it was great! Gave me a taste for what was in store. Sure was tough going back for that last week though.

Added myself on 20 October 2017

Haven't posted on here for a long time, still working despite putting myself down in the Class of 2015. I have now set my date, January 2018, I'll be 55 then. Already been on a pre retirement workshop which was fun. Have indicated to bosses that I'll go then, they seemed surprised and of course said I was way too young.

Please add me for Dec 2015 age 57.

I had been on the 2016 and 2015 list - hopefully this is the last time.

Looks like we are both in a similar position, putting it off for a couple of years or so but finally pulling the plug this winter.

I'm already planning extended trips abroad for 2018!

Good Luck!

Tomorrow's the day. Exit interview in five minutes.

Is this feeling normal:

WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?  :(

No worries, I'll be fine!
I'm planning on the end of June and have started with unwanted feeling of impending doom! I'll get over it.

Signed the contract today to sell our business and the real estate property it is located in. Expect the closing to be in May 2017.

Quite scared realizing our annual income will go from $200K+ to zero and we will have 12+ hours of free time each day after working 22+ years running our business. :(

Overwhelmed with mixed emotions at this time....sorry to sound melancholic but I thought I was going to feel happy.

Congratulations. The mixed emotions are not uncommon from what I've seen on the forum--and maybe more so for someone who has built their own business up. You'll do fine--instead of working 12 hours a day on building the business, you'll have those hours available to explore other activities and build up an even better relationship!

As for the income drop. Yeah. Ouch. But, again, that is pretty typical. We'll be dropping down to essentially zero as well, except for Roth conversions. That's why we all sweat over how best to tap the portfolio.

I am done working 6/30/17 at 60 yrs old. Plan is to first start spending down cash that I saved and not touch 401k and lump sum payment for a couple years. If my investments make 40K, that is how much savings I will spend in a year .. unless something major happens in my life. When I am 62, I will start Soc Sec ... Just hoping for two years of some growth before hitting 401k and investments ..

Looks like I'll be able to set the retire date soon. Accepted an offer on the house and if all goes well the sale should close in April. Once closed I'll pick a date to call it quits. Boss lady has asked for a 3 month notice to find a replacement so I'll honor that request. Excitement/scariness is starting to set in.

Reminds me of line from the movie Armageddon as they are getting strapped into the space shuttle:

Oscar: "Great, I got that "excited/scared" feeling. Like 98% excited, 2% scared. Or maybe it's more - It could be two - it could be 98% scared, 2% excited but that's what makes it so intense, it's so - confused. I can't really figure it out."

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Going out on same day (and about a month turning 60)! Doing another variation; Have two modest pensions at 60 and will make some portfolio draw downs until 62 (then scale back to ~3% SWR). DW will be FRA when I hit 62, so we'll be tapping SS at the same time.

Hope to see you here on Friday, 6-30! :greetings10:
