Was officially in the class of 2024 but...i couldnt get the transfer I wanted so my current employment will be terminated ha so since the next 2 years were really gonna be OMY to pad the assets, we're gonna take the plunge now and see how things go ! DW wanted to be done this year anyway on her side so no changes there.

Official last day - or should I say first day of FIRE ! - is july 7th, looking forward to it !

Ahhh, removing myself from 2022, and on to 2023. Initially, planned to retire end of this year Dec. 31, 2022. But finalized my work contract until June 30, 2023. Boss and employer knows I'm out next year. With the market down, I needed to recoup some paper loss, save a little bit more for a buffer. However, I feel more confident now with my asset allocation and my preparation for retirement. Wife also feels it's better to start traveling next year as we wait for the new, more effective Novavax vaccine being approved by the FDA anytime. Good luck with your 2022 retirement everyone

Well, I did it today. I submitted my resignation. Left so much money on the table between W2 and RSUs. Our last two years of spending represents less than 2% of investable assets, so I was just greedily stacking more money when I should be stacking more time. Hoping the 8.5% ACA MAGI cap gets extended, but if it doesnt we have budgeted for zero subsidies until Medicare. It hasnt sunk in yet and I am giving a generous 30 day transition because I love my manager, team and clients.

I feel your pain about leaving money on the table. I had some RSU's that still needed to vest. And after a few years of very basic raises, they were finally handing out some decent sized raises this year. Unfortunately for me, raises don't go into effect until April and I was planning and left mid-April. I had chatted with my manager that there was no point in giving me a raise for one pay period (it was so nominal after tax) so the raise that was going to go to me ended up propping up some coworkers that were on the lower end of the pay band.
Eventually one has to make that decision to forego that extra dollar in exchange for time freedom.

This will be the second time I have moved my target retirement date. I had a significant health scare early this year, and I don't want to walk away from really amazing insurance until I hit some follow up milestones. May 2023 now. Warm regards to everyone! Removing myself from the Class.

One month notice is in!! Now on official countdown.

Just got a big pay raise last week and my one-on-one with my boss is tomorrow. I asked if we still have anything to talk about? He said we do…so…?*

This has been emotionally weird tbh, mixture of guilt due to everyone being so nice and second-guessing am I doing the right thing? If life was about money and fear I’d be here writing my OMY update right now.

Love freedom though and miss it more than doing a job….any job. Fact is I don’t like working, it doesn’t define me.

I'm almost 4 months into retirement now and I'm loving the freedom/flexibility. Obviously everyone's different but I'm also in the camp of "work does not define me." I briefly think about the megacorp and coworkers every so often (how can I not, after 25 years) but I don't miss the work at all.

That's exactly how I've been feeling for most of this year. I have mixed feelings about retirement. I'm financially set.

I had planned to retire in April, but that date got pushed out to May. Then I thought about leaving in August. Now I've settled on September.

Today was my day. Officially retired.

I “officially” retired June 1 as noted above. But as someone who works in education, I didn’t “feel” retired until this week, when the school year started. So many friends and colleagues started off this 22-23 school year. But not me.

I was having a bit of a hard time last May and June and having doubts and worried I made the wrong decision.

Nope, I didn’t. So glad I’m not back at work!

Ok had the one-on-one and still feels weird.

The department I work for treats folk with respect which is 180 degrees counter to the company culture as a whole. This was part of the whole conversation, he has actually been respectful, zero micromanagement with me per his nature and habitually recognized where credit was due.

I’m fully aware this is a rare scenario, not really had it at any other time in 25 years of w*rking so it’s hard to get my head around and then proceed to quit.

*One of my friends on the other side of the company just quit and left all his work on his desk, still looks like he works there.

At the end of the day work is still work though and while I am grateful for being respected at least once in my career I still want my time to be my own.

Giving notice on Thursday when back from 10 day Covid absence...October 14th will be last day. Going to move to PRN or on call, and might work a couple days a month or might just be skiing all week. We want to move 100 miles North, so have a lot of downsizing and purging to get done. Peace all
