Anyone out there have experience living in a Del Webb retirement neighborhood? We just spent a couple nights at the Del Webb facility in Ponte Vedra, FL. It was nice. The model homes were well done and the home we stayed in was very comfortable. We are trying to decide the upside vs downside of Del Webb (aside from living amonst a bunch of old folks).

I don't have any experiences with Del Webb but would recommend that you go to City Data Forum and search on the Del Webb Ponte Vedra community in the Jacksonville Florida forum. One of our posters in the Retirement forum on City Data lives in Ponte Vedra and likes the area (but does not live in a Del Webb community) and has mentioned that there is lots of discussion on the Riverwood/Nocatee community in the Jacksonville forum. I've only seen good reviews on the Del Webb community in my local area.

My mom has lived in Sun City Center, FL, one of the original Del Webb communities as i understand it, for about 20 years. Nice place, good amenities, but a lot of old folks (but nice old folks). A friend I graduated HS with and her DH recently settled there.

We have also visited Sun Desert, CA and a Del Webb community in Texas. Both vere very nice.

I think if we go there I will buy a pre-existing home rather than new from the developer.

My mother lives in one in Tucson. It is one of the better communities in that town, ie cleanliness, well maintained common areas. We liked it so much we put an offer in on two homes that had privacy and spectacular mountains views but lost out to higher bidders. And this is from someone that is currently living in a gated golf course community.

We checked out the Del Webb community in Frisco Lakes (Texas). The community is very nice and on a golf course, however, the homes did not seem to have the same level of finish out for the money vs other 55+ communities in the area.

Thanks for all the info and opinions. Seems like the best bet would be to find a rental and see if we enjoy the lifestyle before committing to buying or building.
