I was wondering how he would react as I showed him around our home.

"Sprechen sie deutsch?" would be his comment!

Happy Fathers Day! I am being treated by DW and 2 of our kids to dinner at a local steak restaurant (where the servings are so big it will be both dinner and take home for tomorrow ).

DD came over yesterday so we had an early father's Day. DW made machaca tacos with tamales on the side and DD brought homemade pico de gallo. Yum!

If you're not familiar with machaca, it is dried shredded beef first popular 100's of years ago in northern Mexico. Like jerky, it was a way to preserve meat before refrigeration. You can eat it like jerky but for using it in other dishes it is rehydrated by slowly sautéing it with chopped tomato, onion and peppers. It is super flavorful and has intense umami flavors. Very rich and filling and absolutely delicious!

This year I got my own present - a Leatherman Wingman multitool to replace my cheap one that disappeared a few weeks ago. Just a little BTD. I hope to hang on to this one for a long time.
