I have been curious about this, and maybe somebody here knows...

I have a front-loading washer. It has a little tray that pulls out that I put the detergent into. Since this is an HE machine, I don't put much into it.

I cannot figure out how that small amount of liquid gets down into the washer. There appears to be no hinge or similar in the back of the tray, and I don't *think* a stream of water rushes through to wash the detergent into the washer.

So, who knows how this works?

My washer is set up so that a jet of water flushes whatever is in the appropriate compartment (detergent for pre-wash if used, detergent for main wash, bleach, fabric softener) into the tub at the right point in the cycle. I've opened the lid mid-wash and seen a detergent filled with the rinse water. I'm guessing yours does the same thing.

Thanks all. On to solving a cure for cancer. :)
