I retired the summer of 09'. I haven't touched my IRA/403b account yet. (currently age 60).

I retired Jan.2008 and watched the market drop and my home value drop . It was so scary but I now how much of a loss I can take and still live well .Housing prices have soared so that helped knowing I had that to fall back on .I am glad I bought my new car last year as I doubt I would make the splurge this year and I love the car .

I am so glad you love your Rav4! That's great to hear. Sounds like the Rav4 was a very good choice.

Interesting thread. I was looking for a "Class of 2009" thread and found this using search.

Same here - I guess there is no 2009 thread. I FIRE'd on 4/17/2009 at age 60.

Since 2019 is the end of the first decade of retirement for the Class of 2009, is anyone interested in a "Class of 2009" thread or should this be it?

DH had just taken early retirement and diagnosed with cancer, all in the same week. I kept working and eventually our 201(k)s rebounded to 401(k)s.
