A few months ago I came across the steps to produce a many, many step fixed income ladder. Like monthly for 20 years (240 STEPS) or whatever your target was. I cant remember where I saw it or how to do it. It worked at either Fido or Schwab as I tried it.

Anyone have an idea? Trying to see how 25 year FI Ladder compares to SPIA with 25 year certain.

Thanks and happy New Year almost.

That SPIA would have to be adjusted for inflation.

That would be probably the only way to create guaranteed 20 year fixed income ladder. I can't see individual building "guaranteed" FI ladder since individual does not know future inflation or future returns of equities.
But I can see individual building portfolio that 90%+ outperforms SPIA.

I can't even imagine trying to put together a 240 step ladder. Crazy complicated to assemble and track. And it strikes me as un-neccessary. I don't see the practical value of monthly steps. Quarterly would take it down to 80 steps with no real loss of returns or diversification. Even 40 steps semi-annually would do it well.

Plus you'd need to be comfortable accepting ~4% nominal returns for 20 years. Very high risk IMO.
