Today I received, in the mail, the BetUS.com 2008 Football Playbook, and the 2008 Pro and College Preview INSIDERS Betting Digest.

I am probably one of the least likely people to bet on football.

I can't think of anything that I've bought or signed up for that would put me on this list.

Do you think someone else is using my identity, or am I just paranoid?

Could be one of your friends signed you up as a joke. Thank goodness he didn't manage to get your name on the NAMBLA mailing list. :D

Just SPAM. They are doing more and more to make things look like a response or answer to request from you. These type of services then try to get you to pay big $$$ for the "winning picks".

Don't worry, Al. You won't start seeing any mysterious charges on your CC until I can find an erotic service provider who takes Mastercard...

Sometimes people mistype their email. Maybe your email address is close to someone else.

Another possibility is keying your email address in certain forums where it is made available to the general public... Spammers can harvest them... and do.

Another possibility is the you registered with some site and they sold your email address along with others unsuspecting people.

We received one also today-addressed to the person who lived in this house more than three owners ago, and we haved lived here five years. I hope they didn't pay a lot for their list.

My 81 year-old Mom gets that stuff from time to time (last week was the latest batch).....just speculating, but we figure some casino that she has played at sold their mailing lists. She hasn't even seen a football game since I was in HS in the early 70's. Others who have been on casino trips with her have also received that detritus.

So, who'd you pick for this weekend?

They probably bought your address from some other company whose products you've purchased, under the theory that while you're chopping wood or surfing or otherwise physically occupied that you'll be able to focus your brain on the spreads.

Either that or they know we all post to E-R.org and figure we have plenty of disposable [-]investments[/-] income...

They must be sending out tons of those.

In Sweden, all you need to do is put a sign by your mailbox: "No junk mail please." and you never get anything.

C'mon Dolphins by five!
