Texas financial advisor charged with murder after allegedly staging client's suicide

A Texas financial advisor is now facing murder charges after being accused in an elaborate plot to kill one of his clients, according to the Carrollton Police Department.

Detectives say that Keith Ashley, 48, a former police officer and fireman, staged the fatal shooting of 62-year-old James “Jim” Seegan of Carrollton to make it appear as though it was suicide. Ashley was taken into custody by federal officials last week on related wire fraud charges. According to a federal indictment, ... Ashley had defrauded at least nine other people including Seegan for at least $1,919,334.79. Five of his victims were over the age of 65.

Wow. Nest video doorbell footage showed the financial advisor arriving at the home on the day of the murder. He also put his name on the suicide note?!? Stating for help contact him? Not the brightest of criminals. Apparently his time as a policeman didn’t teach him much.

No more birthday cards for the remaining clients.

To be fair, he was putting his clients in low-fee index funds.... Not an entirely bad chap.
