Next year we would like to try some domestic vacationing with an RV … likely a modest travel trailer. We've only done tent camping in the past with the kids but, now too many things ache these days and our tenting days are likely over.
We would like to "try before we buy" by renting a trailer.
Any good advice? How hard is it to find a decent trailer rental?

Thx,
Rob

Similar thoughts here. Have heard outdoorsy.com is a good way to dip a toe in this lifestyle.

Some owners will offer to drop off the RV to a campground so you don't have to worry about the hassle of transport.

There are people that rent trailers via an Air BnB type interface. Sticking point might be your tow vehicle. What do you plan to tow with?

You'll have difficulties finding a travel trailer for rent. They require substantial tow vehicles with electric brakes that most people don't have.

You can look for one setup to rent, however.

Many will start RVing by purchasing a used popup camper for around $3000. I'd suggest getting one with an a/c unit on the roof. They use it for a year or two and resell it for $3000--when they figure out whether the lifestyle suits them.

I had a travel trailer for 20 years and bought a new fifth wheel trailer 4 years ago. We keep it in storage at a campground that moves it for us onto a campsite. The campground's 75 minutes from the edge of Atlanta in the Blue Ridge mountains, and we just love the place. Nice to have WIFI and cable TV in addition to full hookups.

Towing a travel trailer is not for the faint at heart, or for those who have never towed anything before. There is a certain way that the weight distribution hitch has to be set up depending on tow vehicle, tongue weight of the trailer, balence of weight onto the trailer axles, and vehicle axles, and other considerations.

If set up improperly, you will get blown around by passing semi trucks, get an unwanted sway, or a porpoising action of the rig, which can get you out of control in a hurry.

You may be better off renting a Class C motorhome RV that doesn't require any towing.
