RN and family planning on (semi-)retiring early

Hi there,

First time post. DH and I have been downsizing/decluttering for some time. Just sold our house last summer and we are now renting a house half the size of the old one while we continue to get rid of stuff. We now have 3 rooms in this house empty or using for storage.

We are planning on taking off next summer with our kids and maybe homeschooling while we work part time and travel in our RV. We're thinking of relocating in the Rockies eventually.

We won't retire completely for a while, since we still want to add to our capital, not to mention budget for two girls through cars, college, and weddings. However, we want to try a complete change of direction

Welcome aboard. I sometimes dream of full-timing in our RV and doing locum tenens work when the urge or budget called for it.

What kind of RV do you have? There are a dozen or so that I know of on this board who are serious RV folks. We own a TrailManor 31' travel trailer, having to store it in our city house driveway; we are starting to look at 5w's and Class A's for next year, perhaps.

We have a 31' Class C Motor Home and we loooove it! It's our third RV; we had two fifth wheels before this and I don't think we'll ever go back to a trailer.

We have two girls (9 and 11), and travelling is a breeze with this thing. I don't mind driving this one because it's like driving a truck, so DH and I can switch off.

We just downsized the house, so now I have to park it at my moms. Storage is expensive!

Amy, I see you have a SuperNova. I just came back from an RV show and went through one of those. It really is big inside for a class C. So it handles well?

You must have seen the picture of my dream RV; the one we have now is an '05 Fleetwood Tioga 31'. We have been drooling over the SuperNova and are thisclose to getting one.

The only thing holding us back is the idea of the $940/month payment. I really want to stash as much cash as possible right now, and paying $12 grand to use it for 5 weeks this year doesn't make sense at this time.

But we will need the extra space if we fulltime in the RV next year (4 people and 2 cats!) so we are thinking of getting one next spring.

Hopefully, Gulfstream will have worked out the bugs by then, since it's still a new product!

Hi Amy,
We have a "vintage" (which is a nice term for older than the hills) Airstream Argosy 28 footer. It is a wonderful and fun escape pod for us that my handy husband keeps in good working order, even though it is 32 years old this year!

Sarah, my friend's father has an Airstream trailer and really enjoys his.

Doesn't matter how old it is, as long as you use it!

Amy, I've enjoyed roaming around your site. Very nice. You'll find many like minded folks here. I am once again struck by the similarities in sailboat people and RV people. Being a member of both camps, I'm glad when I see that others have the same thrill at the idea of getting to spend all day with their spouse/what-have-you.

I love our motorhome--I have fun just going out there in the yard and cleaning it and getting it ready for another trip! Just remembering the fun times and thinking of the new adventures coming soon! I know and respect a number of homeschoolers (even though we're not exactly kid-people--see the phobia thread and I really support what you are doing--not an easy job!
