I drove through Gulfport Fl a while back and it struck me as a nice place to play beach bum for a couple of winter months.

Anybody have any experience in Gulfport, they'd like to share with me, like,

what's winter traffic like?

Where to stay?

What to do?

Gulfport Missisippi is very near Florida. Where is Gulfport Florida?

Gulfport is west of St. Pete at the entrance to Tampa Bay.

I once visited a friend that lived down in St. Pete area. There were just too many really old people there for the winter. And I'm not talking Early Retirement type of old people. No thank you.

I like it much better up at Clearwater/Dunedin area--NW of Tampa. It's a more normal society.

the main strip (beach blvd and shore blvd) has decent restaurants/bars. would recommend staying as close to waterfront as possible, shaky areas north. the southwest side has pasadena golf and yacht club, look for rentals there, not sure what maybe available. jan-feb are beginning of season, so there is more traffic, but it still flows okay.
i would look at gulfport, st petersburg, st petersburg beach city websites for activities.

Not the best place in Florida. Crime is an issue.
