Step up in basis in Mutual funds selling and buying same fund?

I recall (but can't find it now) an investment strategy for stepping up your basis in mutual funds by selling ones with large unrealized gains, and rebuying them again the next day to step up your basis. There was a certain condition where there was an advantage of doing this, but now I can't remember what it was. It seems a little nutty, but at the time it made sense. This strategy also had a technical name which I also can't recall.
