I need a vacuum cleaner that will not scratch or mar or dull varnished wood floors...Any suggestions? Thanks!

Got this one from Amazon back in September. So far so good:

It’s a rechargeable weighing about 6 pounds. The motor sits low instead of on the handle so it’s not a workout. It has two speeds. Suction is good even at the lower speed. The sound level is tolerable at that speed. Not expensive like a Dyson. I think it’s pretty good if your place is mainly hard wood or tiles with some area rugs.

We've been using Miele canister vacs on all varieties of hardwood floors for years, literally decades. Suction is excellent and adjustable, they can take a beating, last many many years, quality product. But, they ain't cheap!

Looks interesting. Are the brushes soft?

No not cheap but I may have to invest in one. I bought a cordless model that had good reviews but it doesn't do a very good job of picking up my lab's hair. I like how easy it is to maneuver but lacks suction. His hair literally clings to the hardwood floors.

As you said....not cheap. Still thinking about it.

I have a Miele canister and a cheap cordless vacuum. We use the Miele for real cleaning and the cordless stick vacuum for general purpose cleaning. It was a bit over $100 and does a fine job for its intended purpose - light duty solid floors. Things I like and recommend - it does have soft bristles, a light on the brush head, the head swivels and the battery is removable for charging. I bought the removable battery thinking I might get another one if the run time wasn’t sufficient but one battery has been enough.
