Vanguard or Schwab?????

I enjoy these comments about Schwab and Vanguard. Briefly was in Schwab, brick and mortar not far from house, but then switched to Vanguard. As previous commenters stated, was and am happy with both.

I like the idea though of being able to go and talk to Schwab face to face.

Also the idea of not having all my money in one place for fraud protection as a previous commenter mentioned.

Can I buy Vanguard index funds through Schwab and is so, is there an extra layer of cost?

Yes, and yes. Schwab charges a $79 transaction fee for Vanguard funds. This is why I use the corresponding Vanguard ETFs in my Schwab accounts, which have an $8.95 transaction fee.

Overall, I've been very happy with Schwab since the early 1990s. I've been considering moving to Vanguard for years, but I never seem to get around to it. The biggest thing that keeps me at Schwab is the linked bank account with its easy online billpay service.
