Was in a crap mood last night - ended up buying supplies in Lowes and the elderly lady had a WW2 era picture of a soldier up next to her register. Asked her who that handsome fella was and she told me it was her husband, deceased 1993, who had served in the Philappines, done the Bataan death march, and was "a guest of the Japanese" for over three years. I mentioned my gal's Dad, a tail gunner whose plane was shot down and did over two years in German POW camps, she gave me 10% off for my 4 years in the Navy back in '69-'72 and off i went. Thinking of those two guys and the ones since who have sacrificed much or all; thinking of that WW2 widow standing there working her later life away, i realized once again that i'm a lucky lucky man. Honour and respect to Vets with us and lost.
