I want to contribute money to my Roth IRA, but I don't want it invested in equities because I may need the money within twelve months for grad school. Which fund would be appropriated for a cash equivalent? Money Market? Treasury?

Any of the money market funds are appropriate for the liquidity you want, but you'll get the best interest rate on the Prime Money Market Fund (VMMXX).

This is a time of some risk for MM funds, and their interest rates are so low; I use my VG MM only for very temporary holdings where the interest (or lack of it) is too small to matter. Any other cash goes into my credit union, insured and paying about 4% now.

The short term federal bond fund entails slightly more risk and slightly better returns historically. If you are willing to take a tiny bit of risk that is also a good choice. But if you truly need penny for penny safety, stick with one of the MMFs.
