Trying to get debt free

Hi,
I found this site in looking for information about Ameriprise. My husband and I are trying to get debt free (Sallie Mae is the devil). We had a VUL policy from Ameriprise that we closed earlier this summer. We also have disability insurance through them that I am trying to cancel. Any advice on how to get rid of this policy?
