Did you say offshoring?

I don't feel sorry for them as you seem to.

I am looking at this very clear-eyed.

Not my concern whether they make a livelihood or not.
My #1 concern is whether I have a livelihood or not.

And they feel the same about you. Get it?

One of Megacorp's hoped for benefits of outsourcing is controlling the technical resources. A behemoth COBOL system and the majority of COBOL jocks are our age and either out or soon to be out of the workforce. Pretty hard to hire a bright college kids and expect them to do COBOL. They're not going to hang out to learn old technology.

If you go offshore you don't care about staff retention and long term career goals. Eventually you have to migrate things to new technologies.

No, I am talking in generalities. I don't work with OP, I don't work with his management team, and we are hearing one side of the story - trying to be specific would be presumptuous of me.

This thread is not about generalities.
It is in response to the OP and it is specific.

If you want to talk in generalities about outsourcing and exhorting to people to adapt, you should have started your own thread.

That would free up the domestic team to do what they do best, which would be higher level, more valuable work - probably more interesting as well.

Yes, free up the domestic team for the unemployment line.
