A bigger monitor.

My initial thought was "Yeah, sure, right, this study was funded by TH."

Then I saw the screen shot.

I think the spouse and I are going to have to reconsider those anniversary gifts. "Hey, honey, we need a bigger desk!"

A big problem with the Windows desktop metaphor is that if your real, physical desktop were only 12 inches wide, you'd never find anything, because there would always be other crap on top of it.

There's a cheap and clever way to have two monitors.  Just have two computers (e.g. one laptop, one desktop) and use a product called MaxiVista to use the second monitor as added screen space.  Haven't tried it, but it gets good reviews.

A buddy of mine in AZ uses a flat panel TV, around 42 inches, as his computer monitor. Cracked me up at first, but it worked neat.
