SPAM Fans?

I don't know if I ever ate Spam but if I did it must have been around 1956 when we lived on Okinawa. I may have eaten it once. As a 8-9 year old I thought it was strange that meat was sold in a can. Out of curiosity I checked the price in 1955 and a can of Spam cost $.39. Now the 12 oz can is around $3.60 (WalMart). That would be less than the price of a Big Mac.
I don't think it would be much different than a hot dog since it is just pork with salt, sugar, some starch binder and nitrates.

Cheers!

DH went grocery shopping with me yesterday.
I unpacked a can of SPAM that I did not put in the basket! :)

A friend at w*rk was a child during WWII. Much of their "meat" was Spam since most real meat was rationed. He couldn't even look at the stuff later on. It's funny how people react since some think of Spam as almost a delicacy and others as deprivation in a can. YMMV
