Stations out of Gas TX

Most (maybe all) newer cars now have anti siphon valves. Not sure when it started so good luck with that. I know it's been standard for most cars in the past 6 to 8 years, maybe longer. There are several ways to get the fuel out these days but it's not as easy as it once was.
Good point. You can tell that it has been many years since I needed to siphon gas out of a car!

I think some stations are imposing limits. At the nearby station it was reported they had a $25 limit, but we didn’t run into a limit.

Does that prevent a determined customer from starting a new transaction?

how about even and odd days??

I remember in the 70s gas was rationed in Dallas county. I drove south out of the county to fill up on my way to visit my GF. I stopped in Palmer, Texas on I-45. First station totally out of gas. Second station has gas but each pump had a note on it apologizing for the stunning price of $1.05 per gallon!

After catching my breath I think I bought $5 worth, figuring I'd find cheaper somewhere.

On the note on the pump, someone had written "Bulls**t!".

And did anyone see the video of a man and woman in a wrestling match in a gas line in NC?

Definitely a throwback!

Well, all I can figure is some local news station or radio must have freaked people out here. Apparently it all started yesterday afternoon with big lines at the pumps and by 8pm many stations out of gas. This affected Mission/McAllen area.

The City of Mission posted on their Facebook page : “Kindly stop panic buying gas, it’s really not necessary.”

Several hilarious comments including this cute graphic:

It'll take a while to get back to normal on colonial pipeline

The outage was one of the longer ones in the last two decades.

This will require routing some ships of gasoline, diesel and jet to the coastal terminal locations and colonial pipeline to backfill the inland terminals.

All inventories were low due to the market structure just prior to the attack.

The pipeline could only pump so many bbls each day so expect the pipeline to be running at full capacity (as it usually does).

Consumers need to temper their buying and not stock up going forward (filling up gasoline cannisters).

I saw 10 percent of stations in Texas are out of gas. I think memories of the Deep Freeze are still too fresh for people not to panic a bit.

yes, I'm not able to confirm that anywhere else so presumably that was not correct on Texas.

A Chick-fil-A sauce shortage which is currently happening sounds better than a gasoline shortage anyday.

Love how the media calls it panic buying.. because that blames us...

If you filled up your car
yesterday instead of Friday how is that panic buying?

How do you panic buy gas, you can't stick in your basement like you do TP?

You would think after Covid people would realize how "just in time" this country runs for essentials. This hap[ens somewhere every year when they forecast hurricanes.

You can panic buy gas and put it in your 2.5 gallon lawn mower can! I was out getting gas for my lawn mower can, just because it was empty, not panic buying, and two other people at the gas station were filling up cans. I bet *they* were panic buying, lol.

I just don't understand this--here in my town in NC all the gas stations are out of gas, no gas to be found anywhere around me. The NC Governor has declared a state of emergency. But yet the news says there is not a real shortage. Is this all panic buying? I have about half a tank full and had hoped to to visit my 90 year old mother who lives about an hour and a half away. I may have to postpone my trip to see my mother.
The link in REWahoo’s post will show you gas stations that are open and pumping, in your area, where your mother lives, and all along the route.

Here's something interesting. Yesterday while getting $15 of gas, the pump must have sensed my panic, just like a computer does when you have a tight deadline, and froze up after it pumped in exactly 15 cents worth. Weird. The clerk had to reset it, and then I pumped in the remaining $14.85. Never had that happen before. Maybe the clerk entered 15 cents instead of 15 dollars when I prepaid.

Bold.... Most likely IMO....

Seems right to me, why did you and your neighbors fill up your tanks before it was needed, causing the stations to be out of gas? Panic.

Thinking you might not be able to get gas, caused by the media saying there could be shortage.

I was able to get on Gasbuddy at 3 a.m. It shows all the gas stations in my area are out of gas, or questionable. We needed to make a few trips in the near future but have nixed those for the time being.

The stupid thing is, Florida's gasoline does not come from that pipeline. I suppose the gas trucks we depend on, may have been diverted to states where there really was an outage.

Technicians coming to work on the house, all report having to drive out of their way to gas up their trucks. But at least they could find gas.

Maybe they thought you were panic buying. Gasoline, toilet paper, meat, pool chlorine, and soap. What next?

Most stations near me are out of gas. Only one I saw open was a grocery store gasoline club location which is nearby but not a well known location.

They just had regular. I filled up. There was a line but not long.

Now, where is that siphon hose? Last I saw it was in a box with my ZZTop and Three Dog Night 8-tracks.

Probably would have worked on cars back then too... See post 54.

People like this (filling 7 gas cans as well as their car) are why there's no gas for people who actually need it in NC and elsewhere.

We really do not know these people's needs though. So hard to judge.

Some people in this area are preparing to pick kids up from college. Another I know is taking a 1400 mile car trip to take a daughter to location of summer internship.

Need gas for those things, and right into the teeth of this shortage.

Yes, I have been looking at the gas buddy app. Yesterday I went by the one station in my area that gas buddy showed had gas but it had run out too. Someone suggested to try to rent a car with gas--I checked the local car rental place and they are out of rental cars so other people must have had that same idea. I am leaving shortly for my mother's, taking an overnight bag in case I cannot find any gas on the route and cannot get back home.

They declare price gouging on gas to be illegal and yet lumber gouging is just fine!

I had plenty of gas to get to the hardware store yesterday only to find the 2x10 x 20 foot boards we bought last week for $62 were $103.

I know I know, back to the inflation thread with me...
