In some perverse way the powers that be must have figured that by eliminating the trans fats they could imply the products were not unhealthy. But let's get real, here. No one eats cupcakes for health benefits. At least for Suzy Q's I wish they'd bring back the trans fats.

I got one for a treat to give my grand child a taste. After a few bites it was forgotten. The kid wants grandpa's chocolate chip cookies (which I make with 1/3 less added sugar). Gotta love 'em (the kid and the cookies).

FWIW, since I try to eat lower and slow carb, when I do eat something sugary, I want it to taste very good and be worth the withdrawals from my 'Well Done' account. Most processed foods don't make the grade.

I agree. I turn up my nose at the Food Porn recipes my FB friends post (e.g., flatten out pre-packaged chocolate chip cookie dough on a cookie sheet, bake, spread with a mix of melted Peanut Butter cups and Snickers bars) but my one favorite junk food from back in college was Dolly Madison Zingers, now Hostess Zingers. I went through a long, dry period when I couldn't get them after I moved from Ohio to NJ (lived in NJ 1978-2003) and would stock up when I found them elsewhere. I've had them recently, typically after a very long bike ride, and they just don't taste the same. Maybe it's just as well.

My taste for sugar has eroded over the years, so any of these foods no longer taste appealing. I figured that was just part of ageing, like why kids don't like tea but older adults do.

My wife went to work for Hostess/Wonder Bread as manager of a thrift store. She raised her first 3 kids on Twinkies. After 14 years of slinging numerous loaves of bread, she wore out her shoulder and elbow.

I personally preferred Ding Dongs, later to be changed to King Dons by name only.

You guys are getting old and your body changes as you age. It’s like the talk you have with a teenager but the opposite lol. Your body is like a flower....a dying flower. Tastes are duller, colors aren’t as bright, sounds are muffled, everything isn’t as good as it used to be.
Not only that but your outlook also changes.
Unreal expectations are a recipe for discontent.

I think I first saw Hostess Cupcakes on Howdy Doody in the mid 50s. I was amazed that you could get a chocolate cupcake with icing in the middle and was excited when I could have one. Not so much now.

Cheers!

If the Hostess folks could have used that brownie recipe, they would never have gone bankrupt!
