Have you looked for mason jars in thrift stores? I see them there priced from $0.25 to $0.50 or so without lids. Hit senior discount day, and the deal is even better.

I think the demand for home preservation products makes them hard to find all over except for places like Amazon and Ebay where you can find a 64 oz jar for $11 when the normal price is $11 for 6. I was going to check some stores anyway but that area is still packed with people based on a YouTube video someone took of about a mile long section of that street. I can wait.
