I got a robo call this morning from my cc's fraud dept. saying that 'due to some accounts being compromised...unnamed merchant....' they will be sending me a new card and deactivating the old one. Funny thing is I got this replacement card not a week before the Target breach, and shopped at Target during the affected timeframe. I got the replacement card because my cc's fraud dept. detected unauthorized use of my card in another state the same day that I used my card at my local grocery store. Funny thing...the unauthorized use was at a Target store .

Curious if anyone else's cc companies are being proactive in reissuing ccs?

Our credit card was compromised also. The issuer sent us a new card.

I read that Credit Unions alone have spent 30 Million dollars to date because of the Target breach. I wonder who is going to pay for this. Perhaps if Target had to pay some of it, that might be an incentive to be more careful with their customers data. Telling their customers to be more careful and check their CC statements, while true, can only go so far in transferring the cost of this fiasco to others.

My card was compromised. It was linked to everything and has taken many hours to fix and I'm still not done calling all the utilities and autocharges it links to. They also used the card info to access bank accounts. Those all had to get replaced as well. Having most everything at one bank was very convenient until this fiasco.

Bank of America's "shop safe" one time use credit cards are looking very attractive right now. Anyone know of any similar limited liability, or limited time use credit cards?

Hmmm...quotes aren't working using the iPad app.

Anyways, this is why I keep a separate card for only recurring transactions. Since I don't use it anywhere else, the odds of it being compromised is low. And if the card I use regularly is compromised, it's not a big deal.

My wife has had her USAA Debit card replaced and her USAA MC replaced and they have said they are replacing my USAA credit card as well. DW shopped at Target during the breach time frame. USAA stated Target breach was the cause.

My CU debit card was replaced. I shopped at Target during the time frame also.

Here's one person's opinion on what companies are doing right and wrong about securing customer information.

This article is about online security. However, it’s not another primer on what steps you should take to secure your data. Instead, it looks at the attitudes and actions companies take to secure your private information. It’s also about what you can do to make companies more proactive at keeping your data secure.

Yes, AMEX (Fidelity) sent us new cards after the Home Depot issue. Odd thing my old card had a chip, new ones do not.

Interesting article, thanks. It seems ironic, the story about the guy that reports a PHI issue became a target of the place that leaked the data.

I also don't understand how these merchants pass a yearly PCI audit. I was part of a couple and thought they were very complete.
