Our first return with about 40% of the year worked (we retired in early May)- we are getting back a huge refund! Plus we got a nice tax credit for the obscene amount we pay for last kid's college at uber expensive New England private college (no financial aid).

Every year I dread working on taxes, we always argue, pay AMT, etc. This year it was so enjoyable. We leave for Italy in a couple weeks and DH said let's not worry about meal costs, let's eat what we want. (We usually set a budget for meals each day).

Loving retirement even more today. :)

Yes, it ranks right up there with self-immolation.

Not this year it wasn't - maybe next year will be better.

Not.

Congratulations! Looking forward to next years tax return. My first year to show no business income.

My spouse and I reviewed our taxes two days ago. It was amazing. We normally have to pay, and based on that make quarterly payments for the next tax year.

This time it was so different. We each had a small tax owing on our returns and our quarterly installments are minimal-so much so that we just paid the first two quarters 2013 at the same time as we filed for 2012. It feels so good.
