I saw somewhere that the IRS will start accepting e-filed returns on January 25. It may be that the free file sites won't open until then?

I used TaxHawk last year, it is free, and I intend to use it again this year.

Is there an income limit to use free software for tax filling?

If you go through the IRS Free File program, it's $72K. CreditKarma is free at any income level, but they do mine your data and target ads at you.

FreeTaxUSA https://www.freetaxusa.com/ has been open and accepting your information for a while. I think you can file currently and then the IRS will start to accept returns later in the month.

I found this one when IRS Free File started and have used it since then. Works well for us but we have fairly simple returns.
