I like to measure performance from when I last made a major buy or sell or AA change. Historically the market doesn't care very much whether a D or an R is living in The White House.

I think you can slice and dice calendar dates to make stock indexes look as good or as bad as one likes.

But why? Any of the graphs shows that the long-term trend for equities is upwards and far ahead of bonds or inflation. Beyond that, what is useful to know? All we can say is that we hope the long-term trend continues but no one can reliably predict the future. My favorite copilot checklist applies: "Sit down, shut up, and hang on."
