This is my latest ride. I've had a ton of muscle cars over the past 55 years. First was a 1966 SS 396 chevelle I bought new. Back on April 19th 1966 I went with my parents to the local Chevy dealer to buy a 327 L79 nova. I ended up ordering the Chevelle which was in stock. I turned 17 on April 22nd of that year and picked it up on May 6th.

Would love to hear more about the Chevelle....color, HP, 4 spd. TIA!

SS 396 4 speed, buckets, console and guage package. 325 HP, regal red with black vinyl top and interior. 3:31 posi. I'll try to post more pictures.

That video was on Youtube from 3 years before I bought the car. The Max Wedge was considered the 1st muscle car in most circles. This was the 8th one built and the first Manual stick shift. So it can be considered the first stick shift muscle car ever built.

Very nice, reminds me of song "Shut Down".

Here's the only picture that really counts, IMO.

Nice! I bet it really screams! Nice thing about S/C engines is the ability to increase HP without ever jacking up the car (literally). I did a S/C swap on my Mustang all from above and added 200HP. Not sure about yours, but often you can go to a smaller upper pulley to increase boost, change the tune, add Cold Air kit, bigger throttle body, and larger fuel injectors...all from ABOVE!

I love all the vintage muscle cars but I've always stuck with late model performance cars.


Bought this 1.8T Audi A4 new back in 1997 and modded it for track days. Ended up blowing the motor twice.

Sold that, and bought a lightly used Porsche GT3, and tracked that a few times until I realized any mistakes would be too expensive. Image at California Speedway in Fontana.

Currently I'm tooling around in this Focus RS. It's more under the radar than a bright red GT3, and with AWD and 350HP, it's a lot of fun. This pic is from the Virginia City Hillclimb.

I had an Audi 4000Cs quattro that I tracked. Horsepower was minuscule but torque was pretty decent. It had a suspension tuned by Shine Racing in Massachusetts and could turn on a dime. One of my fondest track memories was a kid in an Integra tailing me into a turn -- as I gunned it out of the apex I looked back to see him launch over the rumble strip and into the gravel. Something about being aware of one's limitations came to mind.

The Audi had its own limitations -- I've never seen wiring so skimpy, before or since. I had to build a relayed wiring harness for the headlights so I could see at night.

I put in an order last month for a Ford Ranger with the same engine as the RS and the Mustang. I understand that Ford offers a performance tune that bumps the horsepower up to 320 and the torque to 370 at 2500 rpm. I'm in for that.

I have been driving Vetts for the last 20 years but nothing I've driven compares to this beast. The launch is something to behold.... Actually scares me a little. Hard to believe a car manufacture can build something like this, condone racing it and still give you a great warranty.

I did the same thing except I played the drums and drove the neighbors crazy.

When i was young, I always had American cars because they were so easy to fix. I had a C5 Corvette and I had problems with the dual fuel pumps so I decided to exchange it for a 2001 BMW 330i. I was surprised that this BMW was easy to repair. Reliability wise they were about the same. I also got a Lexus LS400 which never seem to break down.

Now that I am retired, I am thinking about a C7 or C8 Corvette again simply because my C5 Corvette was a thrill to drive. The BMW and Lexus cannot match that thrill. No boring cars for me!

I've never owned a fun car, but (post-vaccination) am planning to look at buying one more manual transmission car before our automated overlords take over driving.

Something that handles reasonably well, can handle a few years of daily driver duty with a backup, and fits a 6', 230 pound driver with long legs. Power is not a priority, as long as it's adequate. No more than 8-10 years old, the Jetta looks inexpensive enough to buy new.

It seems to point to a VW Golf/Jetta or Mazda 3, but I'm open to other ideas. A Mini Cooper has crossed my mind, but I understand they make VWs look reliable.

And then this was DW's "compensation" for surviving 20 years of marriage to me (11 yeas ago!). A few years back the engine grenaded on the highway. Had a vintage Benz specialist build up a new engine and install it. That engine cost about $3k less than the house my parents bought that I grew up in in 1973. The value of that car has gone up so much in the years we have had the car that I could justify it, and maybe even make a but of $$ selling it now.

It's a '69 280SL. Notice the vanity plate....

Oh man, yours and a '72-'73 BMW 3.0 CS are my two favorite cars.

Mostly Corvette’s - current and last one is a 1982 restomod. Pretty much all new except the body.

That was the last year of that body style. There were no '83's but I purchased an '84 in the summer of '83.

I had a BugEye Sprite about 30 years ago and bought another one about 9 years.

I absolutely love BugEyes!

Great story about letting kids get into your BugEye. You never know what it might inspire. I would let kids into the cockpit and sit in the seat before departing. Some would be terrified and others would want to push or pull every lever/switch.
