Early on I found it worthwhile to have a place to go where I could spend a couple of hours. Kind of a hideout or fishing hole. Since I don't fish, I chose the local public library.

That sounds like great advice. Looks like I'll be spending more time at the local driving range.

Worked with a guy that at 74 was still doing th the 60 hour a week OMY thing, he was convinced the honey-do would be worse.

I have a friend who is 68 who hasn't retired because this boss at work is much easier on him than his boss at home.

Just had my first week of greatly reduced hours - 15 or fewer per week! I'll work this reduced schedule to the end of the year - then I'll be totally retired. Do I get to count my reduced schedule as retired?

I have reduced my work week to 3 days for the remaining time in the company and will be out in October.
DH enjoys his last week at school and is out on Friday.
We are planning long weekends and bike rides.

For a second, I thought I wrote this one. The only difference between yours and mine is that my 3 days a week ends in December and I don't live in Germany! DH just ended a teaching career. I just went to 3 days per week and we love to bike!

Me too. Last full-time day is Friday 7/26/2013. Boss convinced me to do some part-time, up to two days/week, until he retires in March 2014. I think they'll get tired of me before that.

Congratulations! I suspect 7/26/13 will always have special significance for us. Coincidentally, one of my colleagues today asked me if I would "consult" with her team on an ongoing basis. Why not? I feel I shouldn't pass up an opportunity to earn a little retirement dough on my terms without the office BS.

Looks like I'm joining the class, too. Company's agreed to let me drop down to part-time/flex status next month. DW's on board since it will give me essentially complete control of vacation schedule for 1st time since, well, forever

I started this class of 2013 thread, and my plan was to retire in January. Plans change though...and now I'm most likely going to be the last one to go out this year....thinking hard about Dec. 30 or 31. Absolutely WILL be in 2013, though!

Moving to the Class of 2014

Sorry Class but I have been offered a one year extension on my contract at work. I like the job and it is quite stress free so I decided to stay on for another year. DW is also looking for a change in career so this will give us a safety cushion while she makes a change. Congrats for all you successful 2013'ers
