I haven't been on much since I retired August 14, 2014. I've been too busy just enjoying myself! I have done a lot of yard and home maintenance, cut firewood, and catching up on some tractor maintenance. BUT... it has all been at my leisurely pace, and sprinkled in has been lots of grandkid time, enjoying summer outings with my first wife, and just having a great time. So nice having a mostly open schedule and not having to be at work. These forums have been a great source of information and support, and I can't over state that. Thanks to all and I'm looking forward to more!!

leisurely pace

I completely understand your situation. Been busy at a leisurely pace, too. It is wonderful. I can't believe people would ever go back to a full time career. I am even mastering the "no, I don't have time for that." I am off to a good start. I can also say how happy I found this group of people. The support is great.

My guess is that it's a member and W is the wife.

I'm not retired, but DH is since 2010 and I love to follow this thread. I just get a huge smile knowing all these folks are going to have such a good time!

That's quite a list. Has a list been done like this in previous years? I am wondering, since I retired earlier this year and had never looked at previous year's Class threads.

If this is the first year a list has been done, it will be interesting to compare numbers. I bet this will be a big year, with the stock market doing good.

For you folks about to retire, I retired back in January...and it has been wonderful! All I can say is: "Life is Good"!

what qualifies as ER?

So if you retried in 2014 but you were already say 65, does that count as ER? Who has the rule book? Is there a grace period? I will probably retire about 15 January, 2015. Does that still count as 2014? I'm 49 so I guess that counts as ER but in what year? Calendar or fiscal? I'm so confused.

Hi - I finally pulled the plug and quit my j*b on December 2! Thank you to all forum members for all the great advice over the years! So good to be free! This was me as a I ran from the building after submitting my resignation letter:

I'm not going to make it in 2014. Not OMY, but did adjust to part time. Will make the decision early in 2015. I'm #74 on the list. You can take me off. I'll request being added to 2015 once it's official.

Hate to say it, but I have to drop out of the Class of 2014 as well. I'm #51 on the list. I think a more realistic goal for me is Class of 2020, when I turn 50. But, we'll see...mainly depends on a combination of the stock market, and how fast the BS bucket at work fills up.

As for the main reasons I held off? Well, here they are, in no particular order...
1) I have a few family members that are really getting up in years. If I retired now, and they knew about it, they'd constantly be harassing me to help them out with this, that, and the other, to the point it would drive me crazy.
2) I'm just not quite where I want to be, financially. My tastes have changed. If I retired now, I'd pretty much be locked in at my current lifestyle. I wouldn't be able to travel much, and wouldn't be able to upgrade to a nicer home, which I want to do, just before I retire. I also want more financial cushioning, for the surprises that pop up here and there.
3) The BS level at work has gone down, tremendously. They're also very flexible about letting me take time off here and there, often at a moment's notice, to get personal things done. Plus, I've hit the maximum accrual on my annual leave. I get 7.7 hours every two weeks, or 200 hours per year. At that rate, I can take off 1 day every other week, for the rest of my career, and my total leave balance would barely be touched by the time I retire. Then add in the 10 federal holidays, and I can get by with only working 17 five-day-weeks per year. I admit the idea of quitting w*rk cold turkey does scare me a bit, so weaning myself off of it slowly like this might help me ease into retirement better.
