Costco and Hearing Services

Mother and many church members use Costco. Are satisfied. Price is about half of other hearing aids. Do not expect miracles. They all have the same complaint. One on one,
hearing aid works fine. In large group, background noise is amplified, Makes hearing impossible.
Battery have a very short life. I think 1 week or less. Costco service very good.

well...if it's like car buying it's going to be a while. I have to study it, look at all the options, decide (ask Mrs Scrapr) on a color, order it, take the Overseas Deivery trip and then wait for 2nd delivery in the states. It was probably a good year & a half before I was driving the Volvo here. LOL. I don't just rush into things

Costco was excellent. Testing was state of the art. I got mine there. DW got her first pair at an audiologist but second pair from Costco and was impressed. Others we have suggested Costco to have been very happy. Cost is very good. Service and guarantees are outstanding.
I've known this day was coming for a long time. DW has learned to make sure she's looking at me, and that I can see her lips. I have delayed doing anything about it until I felt my life was being adversely impacted. The fact is, a lot of what I can't hear, I'm better off not hearing.
However, last night I was watching "The Crown", and I just could not hear 50% of the dialogue. Admittedly, the British actors enjoy speaking in low tones, barely above a stage whisper, but I felt as if I may as well have been watching a movie in a foreign language, without subtitles. It's probably not all me, because as often as not, DW was also asking me "what did she say?"...
So I'm at least going to get tested.
I do have tinnitus which is getting worse.

Both Ms.G and I have Costco hearing aids, helped to boost our medical expenses this year to $19K. We are happy with the product and the service at Costco. We both went with the upgraded aids $2600. Now I can hear those pesky rattlesnakes and the birds I love so much.
We were watching The Crown also last night and out of habit had subtitles on. Cheers

I didn't know they had subtitles. This will add immensely to my enjoyment of the show.

I bought my last hearing aids at Costco and researched the Kirkland brand beforehand. It was the same as a Resound Air (or some such thing) and sold for half the price as at my audiologist's office. The Costco technician tested my hearing and got results that mirrored my audiologist's report. I'm sticking with Costco from hear on.

I made an audiologist appt at Costco last month.The first thing the audiologist did was check inside my ears before doing any testing. He took pics showing I had wax blockage, especially in the right ear. My hearing on the right has deteriorated recently, that's why I wanted to get a hearing test.
He recommended getting my ear wax removed and gave me a list of the nearby CVS MinuteClinics which do that service. He also mentioned an over the counter treatment, Murine Ear Wax Removal drops which I picked up while I was at Costco.
I tried the drops for 3 or 4 days and had no improvement. Last week I went to a CVS MinuteClinic and had the wax removal treatment. It was done by a CNP and she pulled out plenty of gunk and she checked that it was all removed. I left with a Rx for antibiotic drops as a preventative treatment.
I have not had any improvement in the hearing on the right so I will be going back to Costco for a full audiology appt soon. At my previous visit I felt he was very professional and I was happy to take the step to get my ear wax removed before attempting a full hearing test.
I'm glad other members are posting positive experiences. I've never had an evaluation for hearing aids but I think that may be coming.

I do not yet need hearing aids, but am friends with someone who works in this dept at a local Costco. Just to clarify, you are being tested and fitted at Costco by a licensed audiologist, not just a technician. State law requires this in my state at least. In addition to the initial training and testing they go through to get their license, they have to attend classes on the latest devices and techniques every year to maintain the license. believe me i know because I'm usually the one to drive my friend to the airport when she attends them. the last two conferences were in Chicago.

I tried Costco and was disappointed. The audiologist recommended a model that turns out was not suitable for my type of hearing loss. He could never get it adjusted so it was an improvement instead of an annoyance. When he poked something into my ear on one visit that made me jump with pain, I returned them and stopped going there. Later, I went to a professional audiologist (someone who was educated in the field and not just trained) and he helped pick suitable aids and adjusted them correctly.
BTW, there are ways to set them to improve voice recognition and reduce background noise. I have three different programs on mine (I think you can add ten). One is for watching TV, it makes a huge difference.
