I know that it is a day early but I'm back off to jolly ole England again as I just heard that my Dad collapsed today, is in hospital, and is not expected to live very long. So I thought I'd post since I won't be back on our scales before Jan 6th.

Happy to be maintaining given all of the holiday parties and limited exercise. These holiday times are tougher than I expected them to be (in terms of watching food intake and keeping exercise going).
Alan, so sorry to hear about your father - especially difficult at this time of year. Will be thinking of you over the holiday.

At least I didn't lose any ground this week. On Saturday we had sushi as a celebretory dinner for my wife finishing her semester of classes. Sunday was a Christmas party that involved food. And due to some circumstances, I haven't worked out as much over the last couple of days as I usually do.
So I've got a week and a day to hit my self-imposed target of 194.0. Here's to another week of salads for lunch...

Alan, so sorry about your father.
Everyone seems to be doing quite well for this time of year in either losing or maintaining. Good work.
I feel like I've hit a milestone of sorts...in the 50s now (barely).

Great weight loss this week, Happy2bretired! That makes up for your smaller loss last week. And if you wondered where those two pounds went after you lost them, I think I found them.... My fault, too much holiday eating.

Well, after today's lunch, next week we may reverse those 2#s again. I had a big bowl of potato curry vegetable soup, an oatmeal muffin and a BIG brownie for lunch today. We have this really good little hole in the wall place - kinda a hippy dippy place that I love to go for lunch. No supper for me tonight!

Pretty good going everyone. Let's have one big effort this week before the Christmas break, and although it may be hard, try to show a little restraint over the Holidays. (that sounds very Grinch like but ....)
For example we had 2 weeks in England in October when DW's mother died and I avoided drinking beer the whole time, drinking scotch instead (2 oz scotch is a lot fewer calories than 20oz of ale).
I'm going to try and do the same this coming trip to England.

I bit the bullet and joined Weight Watchers on Tuesday. It was time, and I think the social support and regular accountability sessions will help me stay focused.
Day three so far, and I'm doing fine with my "points" budget. I know it will get smaller later, and that'll be sort of tricky, I suppose, but when I get to that point I'll be happy to be there, because it'll mean that I've lost a bunch of weight!
Happy news at the first weigh-in -- I'd lost 7 lbs since my last Drs. appt. in October (and yes, I've been trying, even though I haven't been posting here for a while...)
Congrats to all our losers during the holidays!

Not Wednesday yet, but I'll weigh in. First, though, Alan, so sorry about your Dad. I hope your trip home is a good one.
Had my WW weigh-in today -- down 1.5 lbs from last week! Hooray!
I also hit the gym and did about 40 minutes of brisk cardio.
Now I am celebrating by eating a tablespoon of peanut butter (but I'm not cheating, since I came in waaaay under my points budget today and am making up for it...)

Urchina, great loss! That cardio will probably show up as another loss on the scales soon, too.
And Freebird, you are SO close to your goal - - great loss for you, too. I have a very long way to go until goal, but when I get there you will hear the triumphant yells all the way up there in NY. Luckily weight loss has been easier since ER.

I ate out five times this week so I am especially pleased with this week's loss. Had a regular checkup with my doctor on Friday, and he was very happy with my weight loss so far and its effect so far on my health.

Well... uh. Definitely missed my goal of 194 by XMas. Yesterday was a pizza party at work. And DW has been baking cookies the last few days, so I had to help clean up the bowls and spoons. And there were some "ugly" cookies to be disposed of as well.
At least my fat percentage dropped -- and I do think I have been losing some fat, so at least that tracks.
Between now and New Year's is basically a lost cause. I'll try not to go too overboard, but I won't sweat it. Next year, though, I'll sweat it. And diet it. And it will all be good.

TY
I've been mastering the balance of portion control even while enjoying some high calorie food. Portion control is the key for me. I have also gotten up, out and about a lot lately. I eat very little during the day and make sure I get lots of indoor activity. Always moving... ...dancing to tunes instead of being parked so much at the computer.

Whew, quite a relief to have only gained 1#! A few days ago the scale tipped 125# - eeks! So I'm extra happy to see it drop back down. I tried to be really good about exercise over Christmas vacation - worked out 5 of 7 days. I had to do that just to counter all of the yummy food my MIL kept putting on the table for us!

Now we see why I wanted to drop weight before Christmas... In fairness to myself, though, last night DW and I had a big sushi dinner which made my reading higher this week.
We've got a bunch of candy and cookies from XMas still hanging around, and we're hosting a New Year's Eve party tomorrow night which will include some unhealthy (but yummy!) leftovers. I made some Oreo truffles this week for the party, and they sure are good.
So I don't expect any progress over the next week. After that, I'm going to make more of an attempt to lose weight. Considering that I entered 2009 with a broken toe and a shoulder that was 3 weeks away from major reconstructive surgery, I don't feel badly about how the year went. I did a lot of weight lifting and emphasized building muscle ahead of weight loss.
Now that I'm healthy, I really do want to drop back down to 190 in 2010.
