Holy crap, you guys! Nice maintaining Moe and BTravelin; SimpleGirl, I think 122 is a mighty fine point to settle at right now (and only 1 big glass of water over your goal); FreeBird, nice going on the illness-related loss (and now you're on the mend so can ramp up your activity); and Alan, that vacation cushion is melting away! Try to stay home for a few weeks. Hope Mrs. Alan is also seeing results.

I will weigh in tomorrow but was glad to see on my home scale that the weekend's 3 lb. gain (pepperoni and green olive pizza, anyone?, a brunch, and a Swiss chocolate meltdown) seems to have disappeared. I downloaded some podcasts for a "couch to 5K" program and actually did the first day yesterday in a nice park. I never ever was a runner (of course, extremely likely not to become one now) so I have lots of cartilage left in my knees to abuse. It felt good to shake it up (perhaps the people who saw me have a different idea of "shaking" being good).

Week 1 (Aug. 5): Down 4.4 lbs
Week 2 (Aug. 12): Down 2.4 lbs
Week 3 (Aug. 19): Down 3.4 lbs
Week 4 (Aug. 26): Down 1.0 lb (kind of a so-so week. I've been sick since Monday so no motivation to exercise at all. Hope to get back on the wagon next week when I'm hopefully feeling better ).
Week 5 (Sep. 2): Down 3.2 lbs
Week 6 (Sep. 9): Down 2.6 lbs
Week 7 (Sep. 16): Down 2.4 lbs
Week 8 (Sep. 23): Down 2.2 lbs
Week 9 (Sep. 30): Down 3.2 lbs
Week 10 (Oct. 7): Down 1.6 lbs
Week 11 (Oct. 14): Down 1.6 lbs (I'm just glad I didn't gain since the Thanksgiving turkey made me cave in!)

Week 12 (Oct. 21): Down 2.2 lbs

Total lost = 30.2 lbs

Calgary girl, that's amazing! You must be needing a new wardrobe!

Happy with a small loss after a big weekend--scale is going in the right direction.

Goal beginning 10/7/10: -25 lbs.
10/14, week 1, -1.2 lbs.: -1.2 lbs. total
10/21, week 2, -.4 lbs.: -1.6 lbs. total

All I can say is WOW to some of the amazing weight losses . Calgary girl & Best wife ever you guys are fading away . Congratulations to all of us for sticking with it . We'll be boasting the economy with clothes purchases .:)

I bailed on this thread months ago due to frustration with my total lack of progress. I'm not going to be posting regularly now, but wanted to let you know what's up.

DW has recently become certified as a hypnotherapist. She's hanging out her shingle, but I'm going to be test subject #1. She's started working with me on my weight issues. Just started, so no big news (lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks. Might be normal fluctuation). I'm definitely hypnotisable, but I need to see how the suggestions work vs. my deeply seated resistance to weight loss. Since she started I've been getting up in the morning 3 times/week and heading over to the pool for a 1/2 mile swim. That is one of the suggestions we came up with, and so far I've been pretty good about it. Not my usual behavior exercise-wise.

I'll pop in occasionally and let you know how it's going.

Fantastic results folks, keep up the good work. For the record, DW has lost 2 of the 5 lbs she put on. As she pointed out on Wednesday, it took the whole summer to put on that weight, we have to expect that it will take a long time to get it off again.

Harley,

Your new approach sounds intriguing, please do drop in for time to time and keep us informed on progress, or lack of - if you don't mind. I wonder if your DW has tried implanting little suggestions like "you will not see any charges at the Mall when you check the credit card bill".

If you find yourself doing ironing and extra housework, be very suspicious.

Long Term Goal - 165 lbs for 2011
High school weight 135 lbs senior year, running track

Well.....I had planned on losing 2 lbs during October, but I failed. :(

Not necessarily. Based on your numbers, you could have very easily lost 2 lbs in October, then put three back on. ;)

161 today. :)

So that was last year. I am using Stickk.com (cool site for the behavioral economist types around here) again and made this my day to weigh-in.
I also added stakes to the game--DH gets $20 any week I don't make my weight and he's my referee. Any stakes I lose he gets to take to poker night with the boys. If anybody else is on Stickk--look for me!

Today weigh-in was 167.0.

You like Fat Tire? Can you get that in Charleston at any bars?

Oh, yeah. Nearly everywhere--draft and bottles. And, when I was in Asheville last month--I found it in CANS! Very exciting, because we are always looking for good beer not in bottles for taking on the boat. After picking up busted glass with my feet, I try to keep to the cans aboard. Those Shiner Box o' Blondes (thanks, Texans) are pretty tasty, too.

Hmm...looks like DH might have a good stake for those card games. :ROFLMAO:

Just kidding. I've been thinking about giving Stickk a try myself. I've read good things about money as motivation. I know that DW thinks getting me to spend is approximately as easy as pulling parts of my body off, so maybe it will work. :D

Dang, Harley--you KNOW my weakness is beer...sigh.
But I sent you an invite to Stickk, so check it out!
I love that they let you chose a recipient, which can be a friend, foe, charity, or anti-charity.

I weighed in this morning on my way to the gym and despite eating some leftover halloween candy I'm still at my goal .

Pleased to see the downward trend as I had 3 bad days of eating and drinking in Austin over the weekend. We have another 5 days there next week so it will be a struggle to maintain.

After I entered my weight in my spreadsheet today I noticed that I had only made my target on 6 weeks this year. Sometimes it feels like I'm :horse: (I needed an excuse to use the new smiley that has been added today)

Hey Sarah, I would only charge $10 each time you didn't make your goal :D

Alan, nice smilie!

You might be interested in Ian Ayres' story, as he is one of the founders of Stickk. He has an eBay auction to sell the potential forfeitures of his weight maintenance agreement to the highest bidder. His contract is to keep his weight under 185 lbs for 52 weeks. Any week that he misses his weight, they get $500. Here's his blog post about it (I read it originally in the Freakonomics blog on NYT).

So if you do a contract, I'll be glad to be your recipient of stakes, as you've made your weight 6 out of 52 weeks!

Thanks for the offer Sarah, and for the link. I'm sure you would be onto a winner as I only achieved my goal 11 times in 2009 so the trend is not looking good.
