I've had rosacea on my cheeks and nose for many years. Occasionally severe, but mostly moderate. Three different physicians, one a dermatologist, have told me there is nothing that can be done about it, so I've just put up with it. Annoying, but hardly dangerous. I sometimes worried that people might think it was a sign of excessive alcohol consumption (I'm a very moderate drinker).

But a couple of months ago I had some surgery and had to spend a night in the hospital. They pumped me really full of antibiotics, and when I got home I noticed the rosacea was gone. Still hasn't come back after two months and I'm just delighted about it. So whatever the cause, the drugs apparently took care of it.

Anyone else have an experience like this?

In December, I took a 40 day course of Cipro to clear prostatitis. It also cleared up my remaining rosacea.

I had this condition for several years (small acne and visible capillaries on face cheeks) but was starting to get control of it following two facials (ahem, I mean Royal Shave) during a cruise last October.

The peeling mask had really started me on the road to clearing things up - as confirmed by my saloon specialist (I mean barber).

Please don't take my man card for outing myself so publicly.

Not sure why they thought there was nothing that could be done about your rosacea but I had what I thought was some acne that was diagnosed as rosacea and the dr put me on a long term low dose of antibiotic and it cleared up. Per this thread, the unintended consequence was that it also cleared up some stomach issues I was having. Must have had a bug in the gut that the antibiotic cleared out.

Brau, was it Cipro they gave you? The outfit I went to for pre-travel health offered me a $29 travelers diarrhea kit that included Cipro. I shy away from antibiotics due to concern about gut microbiome disruption, so didn't buy it.

That was one of them. I was pretty sleepy most of the time, but I noticed that and another one in my IV and there were several separate injections of different things during my stay. So who knows what (or what combination) did the trick?

I have some knee arthritis so I started using CBD creme on my knee (it helps). On the back of my knee I have had a strange rash for years that the dermatologist has never been able to cure--tried all kinds of things. I was putting the CBD creme on the back of the knee where the rash was and one day I noticed the rash was fading--almost gone. I have an upcoming appointmeant with the dermatologist and I am going to report on this good side effect of CBD creme. :)

Androgel it's an awesome gel. Makes me feel like it's 25 years ago. [emoji4]

There is a topical crème that doctors prescribe for rosacea. See your regular physician for a script.
W.C. Fields sure could have used some.

Other than the dreams where I dream I can fly, my dreams tend to portray me as a victim. I took a prescription painkiller in addition to the antibiotics for a bad infection for 2 days, and for three nights I was the hero of my dreams. That was a nice change while it lasted, but is not enough of a reason to pretend I still need the painkiller and I am not really positive the painkiller was the cause of the heroic dreams. My dreams have returned to there usual pattern.

I had severe reflux for 8 years. Was on prescription Nexium much of that time, and even Reglan for a while. I was tested for h-pylori; negative. I was miserable unless I took my medication faithfully.

Then, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Underwent serious treatment including chemo for several months. My reflux became worse than ever!!! I was in even more misery. Had yet ANOTHER endoscopy to make sure I didn't have a GI or esophageal bleed or thrush. Negative.

A few months after chemo stopped my reflux magically went away...and hasn't recurred except for a few episodes here and there (managed by OTC meds, thankfully. It always freaks me out and makes me pay attention to my bad behaviors that flare my GI tract).

It's been 8 years now without chronic reflux, no meds required. It's like a miracle to me. It's obvious to me that chemo wiped out some kind of bacterial or other issue that was causing the reflux.

Silver linings!

That’s really interesting. I thought rocasea was an autoimmune thing.

I took a malaria preventative drug a few years back and had really wild dreams.

Before undergoing several months of chemo treatments in 2018, I shaved my head. When my hair grew back in 2019 it grew back extremely curly (it was straight before treatment).

This wasn't a complete surprise, because I had read about "chemo curls" but I didn't really think it would happen to me. It took some getting used to, but now I like it - most days. And on the rare days when I don't care for it, I scroll down to pictures of me with no hair, and suddenly the curls look pretty good! :D

Was it malarone? I've taken it on two occasions for travel. Each time, my dreams turned very vivid in color and tone. The dreams themselves were nothing special - no nightmares, thank heaven!

Clearly, malarone has some sort of effect on the brain; but besides the dreams, I noticed nothing at all. Another traveler refused to take it; said she'd heard it could make you sick. The rest of us pointed out that malaria has that same effect, plus it can kill you...

I always preferred curls to straight hair, even on men.

:LOL::LOL: IKR? My hair has curl and body to it now, it used to be absolutely poker straight. I definitely like my post-chemo hair better, too!

I can't think of any example myself for this thread, but if your rosacea does come back, a BBL (broad band light?) laser treatment may work. I have mild broken capillaries in some clusters that bother me, and my derma zaps them once a year and keeps them in check. Might take 2-3 treatments at first, then maintain. Not terribly expensive, but the kind of thing I figure extra money is meant for.

Thanks for the idea. Rosacea is a very weird thing. There doesn't seem to be any real agreement on what causes it.
Causes Of Rosacea: Introduction

My rosacea looks like natural blush. I actually like it. Gives a nice glow to my cheeks. Sometimes a bit much and I wear a light moisturizer type make up.

Besides killing you malaria makes you wish you were dead. I watched a peer go undiagnosed for some time. Not a fun time.

An anagram name, almost! Lariam = Malari

I wonder if there are any other anagram names for Rx? Cannot think of any.

I think it was Lariam (mefloquine)
